Haloperidol in the acute treatment of migraine: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.
To assess the efficacy and safety of i.v. haloperidol in treatment of acute migraine headache in a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study design. ⋯ This study shows that i.v. haloperidol is very effective in relieving migraine-associated pain. Because the majority of the patients had taken other medication without response, haloperidol appears to be an effective rescue medication even when other types of treatment have failed. Relapses are rare, but side effects are common, limiting the use of haloperidol in some patients.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Comparison of the effect of topiramate and sodium valporate in migraine prevention: a randomized blinded crossover study.
Topiramate and sodium valporate are anticonvulsants, demonstrated to be effective as monotherapy for migraine prevention in placebo-controlled trials. ⋯ This study demonstrates that treatment with topiramate and sodium valporate both significantly reduce migraine headache. This effect of topiramate and sodium valporate has previously been shown to reduce migraine headache, and we postulate that treatment with topiramate and sodium valporate may have a similar benefit.

Subcutaneous sumatriptan for refractory trigeminal neuralgia.
Mechanical compression of the trigeminal root by an artery is thought to cause trigeminal neuralgia. The 5-HT(1B/1D) receptor agonist may inhibit neurogenic inflammation and vasodilation near the irritated trigeminal root. ⋯ Subcutaneous sumatriptan produced prompt analgesia without serious adverse reactions in patients with trigeminal neuralgia refractory to previous treatment.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Acetaminophen, aspirin, and caffeine in combination versus ibuprofen for acute migraine: results from a multicenter, double-blind, randomized, parallel-group, single-dose, placebo-controlled study.
Compare the effectiveness of a combination analgesic containing acetaminophen, aspirin, and caffeine to that of ibuprofen in the treatment of migraine. ⋯ AAC and IB are safe, cost-effective treatments for migraine; AAC provides significantly superior efficacy and speed of onset compared with IB.

Sumatriptan nasal spray in adolescent migraineurs: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, acute study.
To compare the efficacy and tolerability of sumatriptan nasal spray (NS) (5, 20 mg) versus placebo in the acute treatment of migraine in adolescent subjects. ⋯ This study suggests that sumatriptan may be beneficial to some adolescents and is generally well tolerated in the acute treatment of migraine in this population.
