2000 Wolfe Award. Sumatriptan for the range of headaches in migraine sufferers: results of the Spectrum Study.
Migraineurs experience a spectrum of headaches: migraine, migrainous, and episodic tension-type as defined by the International Headache Society (IHS). ⋯ Sumatriptan, 50-mg tablets, are effective for the full spectrum of headaches experienced by patients with disabling migraine due to a sumatriptan-responsive mechanism.

Solubilized ibuprofen: evaluation of onset, relief, and safety of a novel formulation in the treatment of episodic tension-type headache.
To evaluate the relative efficacy of a new solubilized formulation of ibuprofen compared with acetaminophen caplets. ⋯ Although several other studies have demonstrated the overall analgesic superiority of ibuprofen to acetaminophen, this study demonstrated that the liquigel formulation also provides a clinically relevant advantage for time to analgesic effects.

Botulinum toxin type A as a migraine preventive treatment. For the BOTOX Migraine Clinical Research Group.
To assess the safety and efficacy of botulinum toxin type A (BOTOX; Allergan, Inc) in the prevention of migraine. ⋯ Pericranial injection of botulinum toxin type A, 25 U, was found to be a safe treatment that significantly reduced migraine frequency, migraine severity, acute medication usage, and associated vomiting.

Sumatriptan in patients with postdural puncture headache.
To determine the efficacy of sumatriptan in the management of patients presenting for an epidural blood patch for the management of postdural puncture headache. ⋯ We do not recommend sumatriptan in patients who have exhausted conservative management of postdural puncture headache.

Treatment of tension-type headache with botulinum toxin type A: a double-blind, placebo-controlled study.
To determine whether injections of botulinum toxin could be of therapeutic value in the treatment of tension-type headache. ⋯ The findings of our study strongly support the hypothesis that peripheral mechanisms, such as increased muscle tenderness, only play a minor role in the pathogenesis of tension-type headache.
