Inspiratory muscle strength as a determinant of functional capacity early after coronary artery bypass graft surgery. ⋯ A 6-day rehabilitation program attenuated the postoperative reduction in respiratory muscle strength and also improved the recovery of functional capacity after CABG. The correlation between PImax and Vo(2)peak during the late postoperative period suggests that inspiratory muscle strength is an important determinant of functional capacity after CABG.

Effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation over the hand motor cortical area on central pain after spinal cord injury. ⋯ The therapeutic efficacy of rTMS was not demonstrated when rTMS was applied to the hand motor cortical area in patients with chronic neuropathic pain at multiple sites in the body, including the lower limbs, trunk, and pelvis. However, the results for worst pain reduction suggest that further studies are required in which rTMS is applied with a more intensive stimulation protocol.

Randomized Controlled TrialA preliminary assessment of the benefits of the addition of botulinum toxin a to a conventional therapy program on the function of people with longstanding stroke.
To determine if botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) combined with therapy can facilitate improved upper-extremity (UE) functional status versus therapy alone. ⋯ A focused therapy program showed the most improvement in function in this defined stroke population. BTX-A combined with a focused traditional therapy program slightly enhanced the functional status of stroke subjects beyond that obtained with therapy alone 12 weeks after injection.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of 3 needle sizes for trigger point injection in myofascial pain syndrome of upper- and middle-trapezius muscle: a randomized controlled trial.
To investigate (1) the relation between needle diameter and treatment efficacy of myofascial pain syndrome and (2) the relation between needle diameter and pain intensity during injection. ⋯ No difference between the needle types was observed in terms of VAS or NDI, or in terms of pain intensity felt by patients during injection. In terms of SF-36 scores, injections with 21- or 23-gauge needles were found to be more effective. However, a well-controlled investigation is needed to explore the effect of needle thickness on health-related quality of life.
