Randomized Controlled TrialA Randomized Controlled Trial on the Effects of Low-Dose Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy in Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis.
To test the efficacy of low-dose extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) on osteoarthritis knee pain, lower limb function, and cartilage alteration for patients with knee osteoarthritis. ⋯ A 4-week treatment of low-dose ESWT was superior to placebo for pain easement and functional improvement in patients with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis but had some negative effects on articular cartilage.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyLong-Term Specialized Physical Therapy in Cervical Dystonia: Outcomes of a Randomized Controlled Trial.
To evaluate the effectiveness of a specialized physical therapy (SPT) program on disability in cervical dystonia (CD) compared to regular physical therapy (RPT). ⋯ SPT revealed no significant differences compared to RPT after 12 months of treatment on the TWSTRS disability scale. Both groups showed similar improvements compared to baseline. Positive results in the SPT group were higher patient perceived effects and general health perception. Treatment costs were lower in the SPT group. With lower costs and similar effects, the SPT program seems to be the preferred program to treat CD.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effects of a newly developed shoulder robot on poststroke hemiplegic shoulder pain. ⋯ A prototype shoulder rehabilitation robot as an adjuvant therapy improves hemiplegic shoulder pain and self-reported shoulder-related disability.

Randomized Controlled TrialImmediate Effects of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation on Pain and Physical Performance in Individuals With Preradiographic Knee Osteoarthritis: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
To investigate the effect of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) on knee pain and comprehensive physical function in preradiographic knee osteoarthritis. ⋯ Use of TENS improved the VAS score for pain and the distance walked in the 6MWT for individuals with Kellgren-Lawrence grade 0 or 1 of the knee. Thus, TENS may be effective for long-distance walking in patients with preradiographic knee osteoarthritis.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of Electromechanical Exoskeleton-Assisted Gait Training on Walking Ability of Stroke Patients: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
To assess the efficacy of electromechanical exoskeleton-assisted gait training on walking ability of stroke patients based on ambulatory function, muscle strength, balance, gait speed, and capacity. ⋯ Electromechanical exoskeleton-assisted gait training is as effective as conventional gait training by a physical therapist when administered by a gait trainer. As an overground walking system without harness, electromechanical exoskeleton replaced a physical therapist in assisted gait training for patients who stand alone. Because the ambulatory function of stroke patients was affected negatively by stroke duration, the effect of electromechanical-assisted gait training might decline with increased stroke duration.
