Meta AnalysisCausal relationship between sleep apnea and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: A Mendelian randomization study.
Observational studies indicate that sleep apnea is associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and its related metabolic features, independent of confounding factors including obesity. However, the causal relationships remain to be determined. ⋯ This MR study indicated that sleep apnea has no direct causal association with NAFLD, elevated liver enzymes and insulin resistance. Our results showed suggestive inverse associations of genetically predicted sleep apnea on HDL-C and HDL subfractions, indicating that both HDL-C levels and HDL function may be causally implicated in sleep apnea.

Review Meta AnalysisPrognostic value of systemic immune-inflammation index in CAD patients: Systematic review and meta-analyses.
Systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) is a novel inflammatory marker based on neutrophils, platelets and lymphocytes counts, which has potential prognostic value among coronary artery disease (CAD) patients as described by some observational studies. We aimed to provide higher-certainty evidence to verify the association of SII with poor outcomes of CAD patients. ⋯ Higher SII has prognostic values for adverse outcomes in CAD patients.

Review Meta AnalysisOmega-3 fatty acids and endothelial function: A GRADE-assessed systematic review and meta-analysis.
N-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) supplementation has been reported to have an impact on flow-mediated dilatation (FMD), a conventionally used clinical technique for estimating endothelial dysfunction. However, its proven effects on endothelial function are unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to evaluate the effects of n-3 PUFAs supplementation on FMD of the brachial artery. ⋯ We found that n-3 PUFA supplementation improves endothelial function as estimated by flow-mediated dilatation of the brachial artery.

Review Meta AnalysisAssociations of cataract, cataract surgery with dementia risk: A systematic review and meta-analysis of 448,140 participants.
Cataract is the leading cause of blindness around the world. Previous investigations have assessed the relationship between cataract, cataract surgery and dementia risk, but their results remain controversial. Herein, we conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the associations between cataract, cataract surgery and the risk of dementia. ⋯ Current evidence from the existing studies supports that cataract is associated with an increased risk of dementia, and cataract surgery may be instrumental in reducing the risk of dementia in patients with cataract.

Meta AnalysisThe relationship between sex hormone-binding protein and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease using Mendelian randomisation.
The incidence of non-alcohol fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has been increasing annually with the improvement of living standards. Numerous epidemiological observations have linked sex hormone-binding protein (SHBG) levels to NAFLD. However, evidence of the causal role of SHBG in the development and progression of NAFLD is still absent. Therefore, a systematic assessment of the causal relationship is needed. ⋯ The genetic tendency to high levels of SHBG was causally correlated with a reduced risk of NAFLD, indicating that circulating high levels of SHBG was a protective factor for NAFLD.
