Multicenter StudyMediterranean diet decreases adolescent waist circumference.
To explore the effects of a multicomponent-multilevel school-based educational intervention on the nutritional habits and abdominal obesity indices of a representative adolescent sample. ⋯ Increased adherence to MD was associated with decreased WC, indicating a potential of multicomponent-multilevel school-based interventions to combat adolescent abdominal obesity.

Multicenter StudyStudy of the anti-JCV antibody levels in a Spanish multiple sclerosis cohort.
One of the risk factor to develop progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) among natalizumab-treated patients is the presence and high levels of anti-JCV antibodies. Our purpose was to test the association of different clinical and demographic variables with the presence and levels of anti-JCV antibodies in a Spanish cohort of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) during natalizumab treatment. ⋯ Old age and HLA-DRB1*15:01 were the factors that influence positively and negatively, respectively, our anti-JCV antibody prevalence, although our both PML cases were HLA-DRB1*15:01carriers. Most of our patients showed a stable anti-JCV antibody index values during natalizumab treatment.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyCirculating cardiac biomarkers and postoperative atrial fibrillation in the OPERA trial.
Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is a common complication after cardiac surgery and predicts increased morbidity and mortality. Identification of patients at high risk of POAF with the help of circulating biomarkers may enable early preventive treatment but data are limited, especially in contemporary surgical patients. ⋯ Among patients undergoing cardiac surgery, NT-proBNP and hs-cTnT are related to clinical and surgical characteristics, have different perioperative time courses but are not independently associated with risk of POAF.

Multicenter StudyStress and inflammatory biomarkers and symptoms are associated with bioimpedance measures.
This large cross-sectional, multi-centre study evaluated the association of body composition measurements by a novel dual frequency bioimpedance device (BIA-ACC) with chronic stress/inflammation biomarkers and the presence of medically unexplained symptoms (MUS). ⋯ MUS is an index of chronic stress and inflammation and BIA-ACC may provide a useful, bloodless and rapid tool in the clinical setting, distinguishing patients with chronic stress/inflammation from healthy subjects and monitoring their response to treatment.

Multicenter StudyAssociations of suPAR with lifestyle and cardiometabolic risk factors.
Soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR), a novel indicator of low-grade inflammation, is associated with cardiovascular disease and mortality in the general population, while an unhealthy lifestyle influences inflammatory status. We aimed to explore the relationship of suPAR with lifestyle and cardiometabolic risk factors in a black South African population. ⋯ suPAR was independently associated with unhealthy lifestyle behaviours, but not with cardiometabolic risk factors suggesting that suPAR, as known predictor of cardiovascular disease and mortality, is augmented by modifiable cardiovascular risk factors. These findings emphasise the need for a healthy lifestyle to decrease the burden of cardiovascular disease in Africans.
