Gene polymorphisms had been found to be associated with increased risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The aim of the present study was to assess the association between rs2896019 and rs3810622 in PNPLA3 with the susceptibility to NAFLD in Han Chinese population. A total of 384 NAFLD patients and 384 controls were enrolled in the study. ⋯ Likewise, patients with genotype TT of rs3810622 had higher levels of ALT (P = 0.021) and blood glucose (GLU) (P = 0.034). Haplotype association analysis showed that GT haplotype conferred a statistically significant increased risk for NAFLD (OR = 1.49; 95% CI = 1.20-1.84, P < 0.01). These results suggest that PNPLA3 rs2896019 and rs3810622 polymorphisms significantly contribute to increased NAFLD risk in Han Chinese population.

Socioeconomic inequities and cardiovascular disease-related disability in China: A population-based study.
The prevalence of disability has changed along with aggressive economic development in China. However, socioeconomic inequalities associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD)-related disability have not been explored. This is the first study to explore CVD-related disability among persons aged 45 years and older in China. ⋯ Education inequality was strongly associated with the risk of multiple disabilities. To address the challenge of CVD-related disability in China, the government should adjust its strategies for health care systems to prevent disability. The widening discrepancy between urban and rural areas indicates that the most important priorities for disability prevention in China are to reinforce health promotion in the working age population and to improve health services in rural communities.
