This study is to investigate the methylation status of multiple tumor suppressor 1 (p16), secreted glycoprotein 2 (SLIT2), scavenger receptor class A, member 5 putative (SCARA5), and human runt-related transcription factor 3 (Runx3) genes in the peripheral blood of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This is a case-control study. The peripheral blood samples were collected from 25 HCC patients, 25 patients with high risk of HCC (defined as "internal control group"), and 25 healthy individuals (defined as "external control group"), respectively. ⋯ And the methylation rates of CpG1, CpG2, CpG3, CpG4, CpG5, and CpG8 in Runx3 gene in HCC patients were significantly different to that of control groups (P < .05). We also have analyzed the correlations between the CpG islands methylation of Runx3 or SCARA5 genes and the age, gender, hepatitis B, liver cirrhosis, alpha fetal protein, or hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) of the HCC patients, which all showed no significant correlations (P > .05). The methylation status of SCARA5 and Runx3 genes are abnormal in HCC patients, which may further be used as molecular markers for early auxiliary diagnosis of liver cancer.

Currently available approaches to osteoporosis treatment include application of antiresorptive and anabolic agents influencing bone tissue metabolism. The aim of the study was to present bone mineral density (BMD) changes of lumbar spine in osteoporotic patient treated with bisphosphonates such as ibandronic acid and pamidronic acid, and beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB). ⋯ The results obtained indicate that HMB may be applied for the effective treatment of osteoporosis in humans. Further studies on wider human population are recommended to evaluate mechanisms influencing bone tissue metabolism by HMB.

Efficacy and safety of immunomodulatory drugs in patients with anterior uveitis: A systematic literature review.
To assess the efficacy and safety of immunomodulatory drugs in patients with noninfectious anterior uveitis (AU). ⋯ Although there is a lack of robust evidence, methotrexate, cyclosporine A, azathioprine, adalimumab, and golimumab might be effective in AU patients.

Association between IRGM polymorphisms and tuberculosis risk: A meta-analysis.
The human immunity-related GTPase M (IRGM) is involved in regulating autophagy against invading pathogens. Recently, inconsistent results have been reported about the association between IRGM polymorphisms and tuberculosis risk in several studies. ⋯ IRGM rs10065172 was associated with decreased risk of tuberculosis in Asian populations, but not in African/Africa-Americans. rs4958842, rs4859843, and rs4859846, had a large protective effect in Asians, whereas rs72553867 was not associated with tuberculosis risk.

Value of shear wave elastography in discriminating malignant and benign breast lesions: A meta-analysis.
The analysis was aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of shear wave elastography (SWE) for malignant breast lesions through a meta-analysis. Related articles were searched from Pubmed, Embase, and Cochrane library. Overall sensitivity and specificity were analyzed with DerSimonian and Laird random effects model. ⋯ It showed a little higher value in specificity and summary ROC curve than SWE (0.93 vs. 0.87; 0.95 vs. 0.93). In addition, maximum stiffness exhibited higher detection sensitivity than that of mean stiffness (0.91 vs. 0.85). SWE serves as an accurate diagnostic technology for discriminating between malignant and benign breast lesions.
