Up to 40% of women gain excessive weight during pregnancy. Obesity complications and risks in parturient women undergoing cesarean section (CS) with different anesthetic methods remain unknown. This study aimed to assess the safety and risk of obese women undergoing CS delivery with various perioperative anesthetic methods. ⋯ GA, EA, and CSEA are safe and effective in severely or morbidly obese patients. Morbidly obese parturient show increased likelihood for fetal distress, PACU, sitting position puncture, puncture difficulty, and other pregnancy complications. There were more anesthesia puncture times in morbidly obese patients.

The study aims to help domestic application units and research institutions improve their research quality of antidepressant clinical tests by studying and analyzing the current status and problems in selecting control drugs during domestic antidepressant clinical tests and illustrating some key problems that should be noted when selecting the control drug in such researches. ⋯ Application units and research institutions should consider the selection of subjects, control the failure rate, strengthen safety risks, and control and intensify quality control to further improve the overall quality and research level of domestic antidepressant clinical tests.

Utilization of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for treatment of high-grade gliomas (HGGs) has been slowly increasing with variable reported success rates. ⋯ Our results suggest that SRS holds promise as a relatively safe treatment option for HGG. In terms of efficacy at this time, there are inadequate data to support routine utilization of SRS as the standard of care for newly diagnosed or recurrent HGG. Further studies should be pursued to define more clearly the therapeutic role of SRS.

The risk calculator of the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP) has been shown to be useful in predicting postoperative complications. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the predictive value of the ACS-NSQIP calculator in geriatric patients undergoing lumbar surgery. A total of 242 geriatric patients who underwent lumbar surgery between January 2014 and December 2016 were included. ⋯ However, Brier score showed that the ACS-NSQIP model could not accurately predict risk of all (B = 0.321) or serious (B = 0.241) complications, although it accurately predicted the risk of death (B = 0.0072); this was supported by ROC curve analysis. The ROC curve also showed that the model had high sensitivity and specificity for predicting renal failure and readmission. The ACS-NSQIP surgical risk calculator is not an accurate tool for the prediction of postoperative complications in geriatric Chinese patients undergoing lumbar surgery.

Several previous studies were carried out on the association between xeroderma pigmentosum group G (XPG) gene polymorphisms (including rs873601 G>A, rs2094258 C>T, rs2296147 T>C, and rs751402 C>T) and the risk of gastric cancer in Chinese populations. However, their conclusions were not consistent. Therefore, this meta-analysis was performed by us to investigate the association between the 4 potentially functional single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of XPG gene and gastric cancer risk. ⋯ The current meta-analysis demonstrated that the XPG gene polymorphism rs751402 was associated with increased susceptibility to gastric cancer in Chinese populations. However, studies with a larger number of subjects among different ethnic groups are needed to further validate the results.
