Observational Study
Association between interleukin-17A/F single nucleotide polymorphisms and susceptibility to osteoarthritis in a Chinese population.
Interleukin-17A/F (IL-17A/F) might play a role in the pathophysiology of osteoarthritis (OA), but several studies exploring the association between IL-17A/F single nucleotide polymorphisms and OA in different populations present inconsistent results. Thus, this case-control study, involving 410 OA cases and 507 controls, was aimed to investigate such association in a Chinese population. Genotyping was performed using standard polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism. ⋯ No significant association was observed between IL-17F gene rs763780 polymorphism and OA risk. In conclusion, IL-17A rs2275913 polymorphism is involved in the development of OA in Chinese Han population. This finding should be confirmed by a larger study from diverse ethnic populations.

Cases of adrenocortical hyperfunction combined with primary aldosteronism have been reported in the literature, and the underlying mechanism involves the secretion of aldosterone and glucocorticoids by a tumor or an adenoma. However, adrenocortical hypofunction and coexisting primary aldosteronism have not been reported until now. Herein, we report a case of adrenocortical hypofunction combined with primary aldosteronism. ⋯ Although adrenocortical hypofunction with primary aldosteronism is rare, cases of primary aldosteronism complicated with hypercortisolism are occasionally encountered. Hence, whenever possible, we recommend testing both aldosterone and cortisol levels in all patients with adrenal dysfunction.

High tibial osteotomy (HTO) is an effective surgical technique that can stop or inhibit the progression of unicompartmental knee osteoarthritis (KOA) to avoid or postpone the need for knee arthroplasty in patients. Whether opening-wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO) is superior to closing-wedge high tibial osteotomy (CWHTO) in treating unicompartmental KOA remains controversial. ⋯ CRD4201811805.

Numerous studies have investigated the association between ALDH2 gene rs671G>A polymorphism and various cancer type in Asians. However, the results remain inconclusive. ⋯ Our results suggest that ALDH2 rs671 polymorphism is associated with the overall cancer risk in Asians. Well-designed prospective studies with more information about gene-environment interaction, such as drinking, should be conducted to validate our findings.

Advances in early detection and treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC) has seen marked improvements in recent years. However, it is still the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Although there are studies reporting the significance of miRNAs in stage II colorectal cancer, there is no known comprehensive study utilising collective data from multiple published studies. Thus, this study will focus on performing a systematic review and meta-analysis using published data to identify and underline multiple miRNA targets, with regard to disease prognosis in stage II CRC patients. ⋯ Based on the systematic review and meta-analysis results of this study, the possible miRNAs could be predicted toward the prognosis of stage II colorectal cancer, and specific miRNAs may perhaps be considered as a biomarker and therapeutic target for this malignancy.
