The present study aims to measure the retinal thickness of the macular region of AIDS patients with normal ocular fundus, HIV-related microvascular retinopathy patients and cytomegalovirus retinitis (CMVR) patients by optical coherence tomography, and generalize the characteristics of retinal thickness of these 3 groups of patients. In this retrospective case series, the study object comprised of 111 AIDS patients who received diagnosis and treatment in the Ophthalmology Department of Beijing Youan Hospital. There are 33 patients in the AIDS normal ocular fundus group, 47 patients in the HIV-related microvascular retinopathy group, and 31 patients in the CMVR group. ⋯ The difference in thickness of various regions between patients in the HIV-related microvascular retinopathy group and CMVR group was statistically significant. The retinal thickness of patients in the CMVR group generally increased, the retinal thickness of superior-outer and inferior-outer sections of patients in the HIV-related microvascular retinopathy group increased, when compared to the AIDS normal ocular fundus group. These optical coherence tomography (OCT) examination results present its own characteristics in different eye diseases in AIDS patients, and different stages of eye disease.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is increasingly prevalent in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. The efficacy and safety of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) in AF and CKD patients remains unknown. This systematic review and meta-analysis will mainly assess net clinical benefit (NCB) property of NOACs versus warfarin in patients with AF and CKD by a pooled-analysis. ⋯ CRD42019116940.

To investigate the relationship between alcohol consumption and the incidence of dementia. ⋯ In the previous related dose-response meta-analysis studies, there were some limitations: on the 1 hand, the sex was not taken into account. On the other hand, relative risk (RR) is not the best effect indicator for time-to-event data, but compare with RR, HR is much better. This study intends to use HR as the effect indicator to explore the dose-response relationship and the sex difference between alcohol intake and dementia. Accurate alcohol drinking data can provide high-quality evidence for the prevention of dementia.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common chronic respiratory disease with increasing morbidity and mortality that cause huge social and economic loss. Although recommended by guidelines, pulmonary rehabilitation has not been widely applied in clinics because of its inherent limitations. Free from restrictions of specific training venues and equipment, Tai Chi, as a kind of pulmonary rehabilitation, has been used to cure the COPD, yet the efficacy and safety of Tai Chi remains to be assessed. In this study, we aim to draw up a protocol for systematic review to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Tai Chi for COPD. ⋯ PROSPERO CRD42019122791.

Patients requiring posterior lumbar surgery have increased annually. Incision infection after lumbar surgery has serious consequences for patients. However, data on the related factors of incision infection after lumbar surgery in diabetic patients are limited. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze diabetic patients who underwent lumbar surgery and to explore the risk factors of perioperative incision infection to provide a scientific basis for perioperative intervention of lumbar spine surgery and reduce risk of incision infection in such patients. ⋯ Local subcutaneous fat thickness is a better indicator for predicting incision infection compared with BMI. In diabetic patients undergoing lumbar surgery, actively controlling blood glucose fluctuations, restoring normal diet early after surgery, and optimizing surgical procedures to reduce trauma and operative time can effectively reduce the risk of infection after posterior lumbar surgery.
