Dapagliflozin, a novel inhibitor of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT-2), lowers blood glucose level by specifically inhibiting the activity of SGLT-2. Previous studies showed efficacy and safety of dapagliflozin combined with other antihyperglycemic agents in type 2 diabetes (T2DM), however, there are few studies for dapagliflozin as monotherapy. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of dapagliflozin as a monotherapy in T2DM and provide theoretical basis for clinical rational use of drugs. ⋯ Dapagliflozin monotherapy was well tolerated and effective in reducing the level of HbA1c, FPG, and body weight in patients with T2DM without increasing hypoglycaemia, although it may increase the risk of urinary tract infections and genital tract infections. This meta-analysis provides an evidence for the treatment in patients with T2DM. However, more randomized clinical evidences are still needed to verify the results.

Exertional rhabdomyolysis in a 21-year-old healthy man resulting from lower extremity training: A case report.
The incidence exercise-induced rhabdomyolysis is increasing in the healthy general population. Rhabdomyolysis can lead to the life-threatening systemic complications of acute kidney injury (AKI), compartment syndrome, and disseminated intravascular coagulopathy. ⋯ Exercise-induced rhabdomyolysis can cause serious complications such as AKI. Delayed diagnosis can be critical, so timely manner should be taken to achieve a favorable prognosis.

The global prevalence of Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is estimated to be as high as 15% and a number of different non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatments have been used to manage IBS in clinical practice, which poses great challenges for clinicians to make appropriate decisions. Hence, a systematic review and network meta-analysis on all available pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments for IBS is needed to provide reliable evidence. ⋯ CRD42018083844.

The morbidity of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) was found in an increasing trend, progressive worsening of symptoms and deterioration in lung function tend to trigger off a lower quality of life (QoL). Only pirfenidone and nintedanib have been recommended in the guidelines, which can modify the disease process. However, no evidence was verified to significantly alleviate the main clinical manifestations of IPF. At present, Chinese herbal formula (CHF) is widely prescribed as an adjunct to western medicine to treat the disease, and have shown promising benefits on clinical symptoms and QoL. There are mainly 3 Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment methods guiding the composition of CHFs, which are devoting to comfort the common symptoms of IPF. Nevertheless, the paucity of direct comparative evidence of them posed a challenge for clinicians to determine the relative merits options. Therefore, we formulate this protocol, which is described for a systematic review to investigate relative advantages among different TCM treatment method and provide more reliable evidence for clinical decision-making. ⋯ The conclusion of this systematic review will provide evidence for relative advantages among the 3 TCM treatment methods.

The effect of zinc supplementation in pre-diabetes: A protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis.
The number of people with diabetes and pre-diabetes is growing exponentially. Human studies have shown that zinc supplementation is beneficial for pre-diabetes. However, owing to the low quality, small sample size, and methodological heterogeneity of these studies, this conclusion is not convincing. Consequently, in order to determine whether zinc supplementation is effective and safe in pre-diabetic patients, it is necessary to conduct a meta-analysis of high-quality clinical trials. ⋯ CRD 42018095724.
