Fatigue is a commonly occurring nonmotor symptom among individuals of Parkinson's disease (PD). Little is known about how to measure fatigue in PD. This study is aiming to investigate the safety and efficacy of acupuncture for PD-related fatigue. ⋯ This study will be helpful for understanding the effect and safety of acupuncture for PD-related fatigue.

IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is one of the most common forms of primary glomerulonephritis. Recent studies have indicated that small noncoding RNAs, such as tRNA-derived small RNAs (tsRNAs), might be novel biomarkers for glomerulonephritis. We therefore investigated the potential roles and possible functions of the tsRNAs in IgAN. ⋯ The results revealed that 143 significantly upregulated and 202 significantly downregulated tsRNAs were differentially altered in the IgAN group compared with the control group. Five upregulated tsRNAs (tRF-Val-AAC-007, tRF-Ala-AGC-063, tRF-Gln-CTG-010, tRF-Tyr-GTA-011 and tRF-Thr-AGT-007) and 3 downregulated tsRNAs (tiRNA-Val-TAC-004, tRF-Gly-CCC-005 and tRF-His-GTG-006) were selected for validation by qRT-PCR; the results were consistent with the sequencing data. Gene Ontology (GO) analysis revealed that the target genes predicted by upregulated tsRNAs were mostly enriched in "nucleic acid metabolic process,' "intracellular part,' and "ion binding,' whereas the target genes predicted by downregulated tsRNAs were mostly enriched in "regulation of cellular component organization,' "membrane-bound organelle,' and "ion binding.' Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis revealed that the target genes predicted by upregulated tsRNAs were mostly enriched in "herpes simplex virus 1 infection,' whereas the target genes predicted by downregulated tsRNAs were mostly enriched in "circadian rhythm CONCLUSIONS:: The present study confirmed the differential expression of tsRNAs in patients with IgAN, and these dysregulated tsRNAs might be novel potential targets for the diagnosis and treatment of IgAN.

To investigate the value of the 1.5T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and the prostate imaging reporting and data system (PI-RADS) score in prostate cancer (PCa) screening. Forty PCa patients diagnosed by pathology from December 2014 to September 2018 were recruited as the PCa group; 60 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were recruited as the benign group. Patients from both groups underwent 1.5T MRI scanning. ⋯ Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve results showed that the ADC value combined with the PI-RADS score was superior to the ADC value or the PI-RADS score alone in sensitivity, specificity, and Youden index for PCa diagnosis. By comparing the area under the curve (AUC) of each ROC curve from the different diagnostic methods, the combination of ADC value and PI-RADS score showed the largest area. The ADC value from 1.5T MRI combined with the PI-RADS score could be used as the standard for PCa screening, which would effectively improve screening for PCa and be valuable for clinical applications.

Acute colonic diverticulitis (ACD) complications arise in approximately 8% to 35% patients and the most common ones are represented by phlegmon or abscess, followed by perforation, peritonitis, obstruction, and fistula. In accordance with current guidelines, patients affected by generalized peritonitis should undergo emergency surgery. However, decisions on whether and when to operate ACD patients remain a substantially debated topic while algorithm for the best treatment has not yet been determined. Damage control surgery (DCS) represents a well-established method in treating critically ill patients with traumatic abdomen injuries. At present, such surgical approach is also finding application in non-traumatic emergencies such as perforated ACD. Thanks to a thorough systematic review of the literature, we aimed at achieving deeper knowledge of both indications and short- and long-term outcomes related to DCS in perforated ACD. ⋯ DCS application to ACD patients seems to offer good outcomes with a lower percentage of patients with definitive ostomy, if compared to Hartmann's procedure. However, correct definition of DCS eligible patients is paramount in avoiding overtreatment. In accordance to 2016 WSES (World Society of Emergency Surgery) Guidelines, DCS remains an effective surgical strategy in critically ill patients affected by sepsis/septic shock and hemodynamical unstability.

Chest compressions quality during sudden cardiac arrest scenario performed in virtual reality: A crossover study in a training environment.
Potential attributes of virtual reality (VR) can be a breakthrough in the improvement of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) training. However, interference with the virtual world is associated with the need of placing additional equipment on the trainee's body. The primary aim of the study was to evaluate if it does not affect the quality of chest compressions (CCs).91 voluntarily included in the study medical students participated twice in the scenario of SCA - Traditional Scenario (TS) and Virtual Reality Scenario (VRS). ⋯ However additional VR equipment placed on the trainee's body may cause chest compressions harder to provide. If it is not preceded by traditional training, the use of VR may have an adverse impact on depth and full chest relaxation during the training. To make the best use of all the potential that virtual reality offers, future studies should focus on finding the most effective way to combine VR with traditional skill training in CPR courses curriculum.
