The role of histogram analysis of grayscale sonograms to differentiate thyroid nodules identified by 18F-FDG PET-CT.
The role of histogram based on ultrasound (US) images for thyroid nodules found in fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET-CT) is unknown. We aimed to assess whether histogram analysis using gray scale US could differentiate thyroid nodules detected by PET-CT. In this study, 71 thyroid nodules ≥1 cm were identified in 71 patients by conducting 18F-FDG PET-CT, from January 2010 to June 2013. ⋯ However, histogram parameters and K-TIRADS were not significantly different between primary thyroid malignancies and metastatic lesions. There is a limit to replacing cytopathological confirmation with texture analysis for the differentiation of thyroid nodules detected by PET-CT. Therefore, cytopathological confirmation of nodules appearing malignant on US images cannot be avoided for an ultimate diagnosis of metastasis.

Meniscus tear is one of the most familiar orthopedic injury, and it is also the leading cause of the dysfunction of knee joint. Recent efforts to improve the success rate of the meniscus repair surgery involve the addition of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The aim of our experiment is to assess the clinical effects of arthroscopic repair of meniscal tears without or with PRP. ⋯ We suppose that arthroscopic PRP repair of meniscus tears results in improved pain and functional results owing to the release of bioactive molecules that may affect the healing of meniscus.

Evaluation of circulating microRNA expression in patients with trigeminal neuralgia: An observational study.
Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a chronic neuropathic pain that seriously affects the daily life of patients. There is increasing evidence that microRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in the development of neuropathic pain. In this study, the TaqMan Low Density Array (TLDA) was used to analyze the serum miRNA levels of 28 TN patients, and 31 healthy people without any neuropathic pain were used as controls. ⋯ The analysis further confirmed that the expression levels of 4 miRNAs, including miR-132-3p, miR-146b-5p, miR-155-5p, and miR-384, were significantly higher than those of healthy controls, and the difference was statistically significant. This study preliminarily confirmed the changes of serum miRNA expression profile in TN patients. Among them, 4 kinds of serum miRNA are likely to be related to the occurrence and development of TN.

This study aimed to examine whether Mandarin-speaking late-talking (LT) toddlers have a higher incidence of behavioral problems than typical language developing (TLD) children in toddlerhood and at preschool age from a community sample in Taiwan. This prospective case-control study comprised 32 LT and 32 TLD toddlers. Participants' parents provided reports about their children at 2 and 4 years using the Child Behaviors Checklist, a component of the Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessment. ⋯ The findings indicated that LT toddlers are at risk for behavioral problems not only in toddlerhood, but also at preschool age. Thus, it is crucial to identify LT toddlers with behavioral problems and enroll them in early developmental evaluation programs in their communities and also include them in early intervention programs if necessary. In addition, the underlying mechanism of the association between language delay and behavioral problems in children needs to be longitudinally explored from a young age.

Occult olfactory neuroblastoma presenting with multiple bone metastases: a case report.
Olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB) is a rare malignant tumor of the nasal cavity, the primary local symptoms are usually inconspicuous. Patients are often admitted to various specialties based on different primary symptoms, which may result in delayed diagnosis and even a misdiagnosis. ⋯ It is a reasonable strategy to identify the original latent tumor by a prompt positron emission computed tomography scan when the primary diagnosis indicates a metastatic disease, especially for the occult malignancies like ONB.
