Spermatogenesis associated serine rich 2 (SPATS2) has been reported to be dysregulated in few types of cancer; however, no reports have investigated SPATS2 in liver cancer. The aim of the present study was to investigate SPATS2 expression in liver cancer and to analyze its association with the prognosis of liver cancer patients. We examined the differential expression of SPATS2 in liver cancer by exploring The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. ⋯ Cox regression analysis showed that high SPATS2 expression might be an independent risk factor for liver cancer (OS, HR = 2.41, P = .000; RFS, HR = 1.90, P < .001). GSEA analysis identified 3 signaling pathways (Mitotic spindle, G2 M checkpoint, E2F targets) that were enriched in the presence of high SPATS2 expression. SPATS2 expression could be a novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in liver cancer.

The global incidence of pyogenic liver abscess (PLA) is increasing, but related reports of malignant tumor-related PLA are infrequent. Potential malignant tumors of PLA have been reported, but there is no relevant predictive model for this subsection of patients. To explore the risk factors of malignant tumor-related PLA. ⋯ PLA could be considered as an early warning sign of potential malignant tumors. Malignant tumor-related PLA had a poor prognosis. Patients with PLA who have more than one independent risk factor or logit(P) > -1.694 may be considered as the high risk group for potential hepatobiliary or colorectal malignant tumors.

The objective of this paper is to demonstrate, considering the experiences from Chinese people, if slow transit constipation (STC) can be accurately diagnosed, choosing patients qualifying for surgery, subtotal colectomy with antiperistaltic cecosigmoidal anastomosis (STC-Anti-CSA) may come with more acceptable short and long-term outcomes. A retrospective study was performed at a department of colorectal and anal surgery. A cohort of 29 patients were coming with up to 5 years' follow-up care, who were in a diverse range of age, BMI, laxative medicine histories, including both males and females. ⋯ However, most patients were satisfied with their bowel patterns. STC-Anti-CSA can receive acceptable postoperative outcomes as long as the patients can be accurately diagnosed and classified as severe STC. Among the surgical procedures for STC, this procedure may be another suitable option, especially for Chinese people.

No-reflow phenomenon during percutaneous coronary intervention in a patient with polycythemia vera: A case report.
Acute myocardial infarction is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in a patient with polycythemia vera (PV). However, the benefit of various percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) technique on the patient with PV is relatively unexplored. ⋯ Cardiologist should be aware of the no-reflow phenomenon risk in the patient with PV and STEMI. Direct stenting, intracoronary thrombectomy, and thrombolysis are preferable instead of balloon dilatation for PCI technique in this patient.

Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria syndrome (HGPS) is a rare lethal premature and accelerated aging disease caused by mutations in the lamin A/C gene. Nevertheless, the mechanisms of cellular damage, senescence, and accelerated aging in HGPS are not fully understood. Therefore, we aimed to screen potential key genes, pathways, and therapeutic agents of HGPS by using bioinformatics methods in this study. ⋯ This study identified key genes, signal pathways and therapeutic agents, which might help us improve our understanding of the mechanisms of HGPS and identify some new therapeutic agents for HGPS.
