Coronaviruses have drawn attention since the beginning of the 21st century. Over the past 17 years, coronaviruses have triggered several outbreaks of epidemic in people, which brought great threats to global public health security. We analyzed the publications on coronavirus with bibliometrics software and qualitatively and quantitatively evaluated the knowledge base and hot topics of coronavirus research from 2003 to 2020. ⋯ Bibliometric analysis of the literature shows the research on coronavirus boomed when a novel coronavirus triggered outbreaks in people. With the end of the epidemic, the research tended to be cooling. Virus identification, pathogenesis, and coronavirus-mediated diseases attracted much attention. We must continue studying the viruses after an outbreak ended.

Determining the clinically optimal dose in methadone maintenance therapy (MMT) is a time-consuming procedure, which considers clinical signs and symptoms. To perform a quantitative trait locus association for identifying genetic variants for MMT dosage that underlie heroin addiction and methadone metabolism and then integrate several genotypic and phenotypic factors are potential predictors for clinically optimal MMT dose for personalized prescription. In total, 316 heroin-dependent patients undergoing MMT were recruited at the Addiction Center of the China Medical University Hospital. ⋯ The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of the combined GRS and craving score was 0.77 for maximum MMT dose, with 75% sensitivity and 60% specificity. Integrating the GRS and craving scores may be useful in the evaluation of individual MMT dose requirements at treatment initiation. Optimal dose prediction allows clinicians to tailor MMT to each patient's needs.

To determine which factor is associated with presence of fat stranding sign for acute appendicitis on computed tomography (CT). This study reviewed the CT imaging of adults with proven acute appendicitis at a single center from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2019. Logistic regression models were used to investigate the association between clinical characteristics and fat stranding sign. ⋯ Age of ≥40 years (OR: 3.10; 95% CI, 2.02-4.74; P < .0001), body mass index of ≥23 kg/m (OR: 2.86; 1.89-4.34; P < .0001), white blood cell count of ≥10,000/μl (OR: 1.77; 1.05-2.99; P = .0316), and C-reactive protein level of ≥2.4 mg/dl (OR: 3.17; 1.97-5.08; P < .0001) were significant factors predicting fat stranding on CT. The ROC analysis with above 4 factors showed an area under the curve of 0.76 (0.71-0.80). Body habitus, advanced age, and elevated inflammatory marker levels were independent in predicting fat stranding for patients with acute appendicitis.

Aims to explore the interaction between serum selenium level and CYP4F2 and CTRP9 gene polymorphisms in the development of coronary artery disease (CAD). A total of 200 cases of CAD were selected from the Central Hospital of Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hubei, China, and 200 healthy subjects cases were served as controls. The polymorphism of CYP4F2 and CTRP9 gene was detected by Sanger sequencing, and the serum selenium level was measured by hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry. ⋯ Low serum selenium level and CTRP9 rs9553238 CC genotype play a positive role in the occurrence of CAD. The serum selenium level is negatively correlated with CAD. The polymorphism of the CYP4F2 rs3093135 and CTRP9 rs9553238 was significantly related to the susceptibility of CAD, and there is a synergistic effect between the serum selenium level and the CTRP9 rs9553238 CC genotype, which significantly increases the risk of CAD.

Exploratory study of clinical effectiveness and safety of TJ-116 bukuryoingohangekobokuto for anxiety and postoperative water brash in esophageal cancer patients (TJ116E).
Patients with esophageal cancer suffer from anxiety in the perioperative period surrounding esophagectomy; this may increase the risk of postoperative complications. In particular, postoperative aspiration pneumonia carries a high risk of hospital mortality. Bukuryoingohangekobokuto (BRIHK) is a traditional Japanese medicine formula used to treat anxiety, the feeling of a foreign body in the esophagus, and water brash. We hypothesize that BRIHK might be effective for both anxiety and water brash in perioperative patients with esophageal cancer. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of BRIHK compared to a placebo for anxiety and water brash in perioperative esophageal cancer patients. ⋯ This investigative study will provide clinical evidence of BRIHK administration for anxiety and water brash, which might improve mental distress and reduce postoperative mortality.
