Case Reports
Ankylosing spondylitis complicating Turner syndrome: Two case reports and a literature review.
Turner syndrome (TS) is an anomaly caused by loss of part of or all the X chromosomes. Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an HLA-B27-associated autoimmune disease with a male predominance. It is widely accepted that TS patients are at higher risk of autoimmune diseases, but AS in TS patients has only rarely been reported. ⋯ Even though AS has a male predominance, clinicians should be aware that AS and TS may co-exist and that the clinical features are atypical in TS patients with AS.

The impact of vitamin K in ameliorating diabetes-associated complications, especially those linked with platelet activation and coagulation remains unclear. The current study aims to systematically explore and discuss the available evidence on the impact of vitamin K on the diabetes-cardiovascular disease (CVD)-associated complications. ⋯ This protocol is registered on the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) registration number: CRD42020151667.

Patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) have an increased serum level of calprotectin. The purpose of present study was to analyze the prognostic significance of serum calprotectin levels in elderly diabetic patients underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) due to ACS. A total of 273 consecutive elderly diabetic patients underwent PCI for primary ACS were enrolled. ⋯ The incidence rate of MACEs and TVR in high calprotectin group was prominently higher than that in low calprotectin group (21.9% vs 11.5%, P = .02). In multivariable COX regression analysis adjusting for potential confounders, serum calprotectin level remains as an independent risk predictor of MACE (hazard ratio, 1.56; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.08-4.62; P = .01). In diabetic patients with a comorbidity of ACS, a high serum level of calprotectin is associated to a higher MACE rate after PCI.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) refers to the pathological state of metabolic disorders in the body's proteins, fats, carbohydrates and other substances. MetS is a systemic metabolic disease. Periodontal disease is also a part of systemic inflammatory diseases. ⋯ This study will explore the correlation between periodontal disease and MetS of coal mine workers. We aim to clarify the role and mechanism of MetS in the occurrence and development of periodontal diseases, guide the prevention of periodontal diseases, and thus reduce the prevalence of periodontal diseases. TRIAL REGISTRATION:: ClinicalTrials.gov, ChiCTR2000034177, Registered on 27 June 2020.

Schwannomas of the seminal vesicles are extremely rare, and only cases of single seminal vesicle schwannomas have been reported. Here, we report a case of multiple schwannoma of the seminal vesicle. ⋯ Whether benign or malignant, single or multiple, schwannomas still need to be diagnosed by pathology because of the limitations of examination methods. Surgical resection is still the preferred treatment.
