As the major complications post allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), gastrointestinal disorders were most commonly ascribed to acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) and opportunistic infections. Though Giardia lamblia (G lamblia) is the most common waterborne parasite of intestinal infection worldwide, seldom has it been reported in a patient with acute severe aplastic anemia after allo-HSCT. ⋯ Incorporating non-invasive monitoring of stool examination for ova and parasites in the follow-up algorithm for post-HSCT patients can expedite clinical decision-making in the differential diagnoses for aGVHD even in the non-endemic area. Metronidazole therapy can be well-tolerated in HSCT patients with giardiasis.

The lymph nodal invasion diagnosis is critical for therapeutic-decision and follows up in gastric cancer. However, the number of nodes to be examined for nodal invasion diagnosis is still under controversy, and the model for quantifying risk of missing positive node is currently not reported yet. We analyzed the nodal invasion status of 13,857 gastric cancer samples with records of primary tumor stage, the number of examined and positive lymph nodes in the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results (SEER) database, fitting a beta-binomial model. ⋯ It implies that the number of nodes to be examined is sufficient for early gastric cancer (T1), but it is inadequate for middle and advanced gastric cancer (T2-T3). The clinical significance of nodal staging score was validated with survival information. In summary, we first quantified the lymph nodes to be examined during surgery using a beta-binomial model, and validated with survival information.

To investigate the estimated glomerular filtration rates of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients with or without liver cirrhosis, and to explore the related risk factors. A total of 559 CHB patients were enrolled. Liver cirrhosis was diagnosed with ultrasound. ⋯ The results showed that the incidence of renal impairment in patients with liver cirrhosis was 8.45% (25/296). The incidence of renal impairment in Child-Pugh C patients was significantly higher than that in Child-Pugh B and Child-Pugh Grade A patients (i.e., 17.2% [17/99] vs 6.67% [7/105] vs 1.09% [1/92], respectively, P < .001); age, hyperuricemia, and Child-Pugh score are all risk factors for impaired renal function. With the deterioration of liver function in patients with cirrhosis, the incidence of impaired renal function has increased significantly, and renal function should be closely monitored to guide patients in clinical medication.

Bioinformatics analysis of microRNA linked to ubiquitin proteasome system in traumatic osteonecrosis of the femoral head.
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been suggested to act critical roles in the pathophysiology of traumatic osteonecrosis of the femoral head (TONFH). Unfortunately, their roles in the development of TONFH are still ambiguous. The purpose of this study is to identify promising miRNA biomarkers in traumatic osteonecrosis development. ⋯ The miRNAs were linked to ubiquitin proteasome system including conjugating protein ligase activity, ubiquitin-protein ligase activity and ubiquitin mediated proteolysis 5 pathway, and we exposed miR-181a-5p and miR-140-5p as promising biomarkers in TONFH. A predicting model consisting of 5 miRNAs may help discriminating high-risk patients who might develop TONFH after femur neck fracture. Among DE miRNAs, MiR-181a-5p and miR-140-5p may contribute to the development femoral head osteonecrosis after femur neck fracture via ubiquitin proteasome system.

Identification of the key gene and pathways associated with osteoarthritis via single-cell RNA sequencing on synovial fibroblasts.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic degenerative joint disease with its onset closely related to the growth of synovial fibroblasts (SFs), yet the genes involved in are few reported. In our study, we aimed to identify the OA-associated key gene and pathways via the single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis on SFs.scRNA-seq data of SFs from OA sufferers were accessed from GEO database, then the genes involved in were subjected to principal component analysis (PCA) and T-Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (TSNE) Analysis. ⋯ Moreover, fibronectin1 (FN1) was validated as the key gene that was tightly related to the growth of SFs, as well as had the potential to play a key role in OA occurrence. Our study explored the key gene and pathways associated with OA occurrence, which were of great value in further investigation of OA diagnosis as well as pathogenesis.
