Meta Analysis Comparative Study
Comparison of intrathecal morphine versus local infiltration analgesia for pain control in total knee and hip arthroplasty: A meta-analysis.
The purpose of this meta-analysis was to comprehensively collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to assess the clinical efficacy of intrathecal morphine (ITM) versus local infiltration analgesia (LIA) in the treatment of total knee and hip arthroplasty patients. ⋯ LIA was an effective approach for relieving postoperative pain and reducing postoperative consumption of morphine compared with ITM in total knee and hip arthroplasty patients.

Short-term clinical efficacy of the pulsed Nd: YAG laser therapy on chronic nonspecific low back pain: A randomized controlled study.
Chronic non-specific low back pain (LBP) is gradually increasing among populations worldwide and affects their activities. Recently, the Nd:YAG laser has been presented in the rehabilitation field. ⋯ Regarding the present study outcomes, short-term pulsed Nd:YAG laser (6 weeks) may reduce functional disabilities and pain intensity, and improve the lumbar flexion ROM in patients with chronic nonspecific LBP. Further well-designed randomized controlled studies with large sample sizes should be conducted regarding laser treatment.

The association between tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α-308G/A, -238G/A, -863C/A, -1031T/C, and -857C/T) polymorphism and either chronic (CP) or aggressive (AgP) periodontitis susceptibility was conflicting. This meta-analysis aimed to quantitatively estimate the association. A total of 52 studies involving 5519 patients and 7260 controls were identified through a search of multiple electronic databases. ⋯ There were no associations between TNF-α-238G/A, -863C/A, -1031T/C, -857C/T polymorphism and susceptibility to AgP. No associations were also found between CP susceptibility and TNF-α-238G/A, -857C/T polymorphism. These findings supported that TNF-α-308G/A polymorphism might be the protective factors of CP and AgP in Asians, and TNF-α-238G/A, -863C/A, -1031T/C, -857C/T polymorphism is not linked to AgP susceptibility.

Meta Analysis
Home enteral nutrition after esophagectomy for esophageal cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Not only has the placement rate of enteral feeding tubes during operations for esophageal cancer increased, but also has number of patients who choose to continue enteral feeding at home instead of removing the feeding tube at discharge. The impacts of home enteral nutrition (HEN) after esophagectomy in esophageal cancer patients are analyzed. ⋯ HEN improved nutrition status, physical and role function, and reduced nausea/vomiting, fatigue, appetite loss, diarrhea, and sleep disturbance compared with an oral diet in esophageal cancer patients postsurgery. HEN did not increase adverse reactions.
