Vasodilator agents improve hemodialysis vascular access patency: A population-based study from Korea.
Vascular access (VA) failure is an important problem for patients undergoing hemodialysis, and maintaining VA patency is challenging. In this study, we used a nationwide database to investigate the effects of nitrate, as a vasodilator, on VA failure in hemodialysis patients. We investigated the Korean insurance claims data of hemodialysis patients who underwent angioplasty for VA failure between January 2012 and December 2017. ⋯ All vasodilators, except molsidomine, improved the patency rate by approximately 20%. In this large national database study, vasodilator administration was associated with higher VA primary patency, compared with controls, in hemodialysis patients. VDT may have a beneficial effect on maintaining VA patency in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Dienogest is a type of progestin used for the treatment of endometriosis (EM). However, a significant adverse effect of dienogest is depression; therefore, assessing for a history of mood disorders is recommended before prescribing the drug. Herein, we present the case of a patient with no history of psychiatric disorders who was diagnosed with dienogest-induced major depressive disorder. This case emphasizes the importance of close monitoring for negative mood changes in patients taking dienogest. ⋯ This was a case of dienogest-induced depression in a patient with no history of mood disorders. Clinicians should be aware of the possibility of the occurrence of severe depression in progestin users regardless of their previous history.

Functional pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNETs) rarely produce vasopressin. Here, we reported a case of pNET producing vasopressin in a 78-year-old man with hyponatremia. ⋯ This case illustrated the potential ectopic production of vasopressin resulting in SIAD in pNETs, highlighting the adoption of gallium-68-labeled tetraazacyclododecanetetraacetic acid-Dphel-Tyr3-octreotate positron emission tomography-computed tomography and vasopressin immunohistochemical staining in the evaluation of the etiology of SIAD.

FOXP4-AS1 expression participates in multiple signal pathways and has been previously reported in colorectal cancer, cervical cancer, and other cancer cells. However, its role on prognosis and immune infiltrates in ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma (OVs) remains unclear. The purpose of our study was to investigate the expression of FOXP4-AS1 in OVs and its association with immune infiltrates, and determined its prognostic roles in OVs. ⋯ High FOXP4-AS1 expression has the potential to be a prognostic molecular marker of favorable survival in OVs.

COVID-19 has revealed the lack of capacity to respond to a pandemic. This article aims to 1. Describe the training of healthcare workers from “Hospital Nacional El Salvador” using intensive training based on competencies and 2. ⋯ The effectiveness of the educational intervention was evaluated by a pre–post-survey of knowledge perception on 4 domains with 10 areas of skills in intensive care. 100% (n: 981) of the participants were trained in hands-on care of COVID-19 patients; 66.3% female–33.7% male, with an average age of 29.92 ± 5.82 years. The course achieved an increased perception of knowledge in the 10 areas evaluated with a mean of 5.72 ± 0.59 to 8.60 ± 0.19 (P < .0001). The short intensive training in competencies carried out at Hospital Nacional El Salvador proved to be effective in improving the knowledge of healthcare workers engaged in patient care.
