Atorvastatin treatment has been suggested as a therapeutic method for women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in many clinical studies. Nonetheless, the effects of atorvastatin on insulin resistance in PCOS patients still remain controversial. ⋯ Atorvastatin therapy can reduce insulin resistance in the treatment of patients with PCOS. In addition, further large-sample, multi-center RCTs are needed to identify these findings.

Caveolin-1 (CAV1) is an essential structural component of caveolae, regulates cellular processes through complex cellular signaling pathways, and influences tumorigenicity. However, the role of the CAV1 (rs7804372) polymorphism in digestive cancers remains inconclusive. The meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the effect of CAV1 polymorphism on digestive cancer susceptibility and to provide a basis for precise treatment. ⋯ Our results indicate that the CAV1 (rs7804372) polymorphism may modify the occurrence of digestive cancers, and the presence of T allele or TT genotype of the CAV1 (rs7804372) may increase the risk of digestive cancers.

Comparison of intragastric pressure between endotracheal tube and supraglottic airway devices in laparoscopic hepatectomy: A randomized, controlled, non-inferiority study.
Supraglottic airway (SGA) devices do not definitively protect the airway from regurgitation of gastric contents. Increased gastric pressure and long operation time are associated with development of complications such as aspiration pneumonia. The aim of this study was to compare intragastric pressure between second-generation SGA and endotracheal tube (ETT) devices during long-duration laparoscopic hepatectomy. ⋯ Use of SGA devices does not further increase intragastric pressure, even during prolonged upper abdominal laparoscopic surgery. Also, the frequency of postoperative sore throat and cough was significantly lower when the second-generation SGA device was used.

Proton pump inhibitors are frequently used to prevent gastrointestinal bleeding in critically ill patients. But there is little information in the instructions about the usages for children. It is important to monitor the appropriate use of proton pump inhibitors, especially in pediatrics. ⋯ By analyzing scores, all coefficients met the standard, indicating the indicators were scientific and credible. Through a two-round Delphi survey, 3 first-rank indicators and ten second-rank indicators were developed, which will help drug administrative departments to promote the rational use of PPIs for children in PICUs. What is more, our study can constitute a methodological reference for the development of other indicator systems.

Does a combination treatment of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation and occupational therapy improve upper limb muscle paralysis equally in patients with chronic stroke caused by cerebral hemorrhage and infarction?: A retrospective cohort study.
The clinical presentation of stroke is usually more severe in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) than in those with cerebral infarction (CI); recovery of stroke-related muscle paralysis is influenced and limited by the type of stroke. To date, many patients have been treated by neurorehabilitation; however, the changes in the recovery of motor paralysis depending on the type of stroke, ICH or CI, have not been established. This study aimed to determine this difference in improvement of upper extremity paralysis using 2-week in-hospital NovEl intervention Using Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation combined with Occupational therapy (NEURO). ⋯ The type of stroke had no effect on the outcomes (changes in the FMA-upper extremity score, F[4,14.0] = 2.05, P = .09, partial η2 = 0.01). Patients from all 5 groups equally benefited from the treatment (improvement in FMA scores) according to the sensitivity analysis-stratified analysis (F = 0.08 to 1.94, P > .16, partial η2 < 0.001). We conclude that NEURO can be recommended for chronic stroke patients irrespective of the type of stroke.
