The experience and causes of pain in patients with nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease (NTM-PD) have not been clarified. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and severity of bodily pain (BP) in patients with NTM-PD. We also investigated the clinical indicators that contribute to pain. ⋯ NTM-PD patients with high levels of pain had significantly higher scores on the mMRC, CES-D, and PSQI scores, and significantly lower performance on the ISWT and LCQ. Multiple regression analysis identified ISWT, CES-D, and PSQI as independent factors that affected BP scores. Our findings suggest that pain significantly impacts daily life associated with reduced exercise tolerance, the presence of depressive symptoms, and poor sleep quality in patients with NTM-PD.

Mutations of connector enhancer of kinase suppressor of Ras-2 (CNKSR2) gene were identified as the cause of Houge type of X-linked syndromic mental retardation. The mutations of CNKSR2 gene are rare, we reporta patient carrying a novel nonsense mutation of CNKSR2,c.625C > T(p.Gln209∗) and review the clinical features and mutations of CNKSR2 gene for this rare condition considering previous literature. ⋯ This is the first time to report a nonsense variant in CNKSR2, c.625C > T(p.Gln209∗), this finding could expand the spectrum of CNKSR2 mutations and might also support the further study of Houge type of X-linked syndromic mental retardation.

Air embolism has the potential to be serious and fatal. In this paper, we report 3 cases of air embolism associated with endoscopic medical procedures in which the patients were treated with hyperbaric oxygen immediately after diagnosis by transesophageal echocardiography. In addition, we systematically review the risk factors for air embolism, clinical presentation, treatment, and the importance of early hyperbaric oxygen therapy efficacy after recognition of air embolism. ⋯ While it is common for small amounts of air/air bubbles to enter the circulatory system during endoscopic procedures, life-threatening air embolism is rare. Air embolism can lead to serious consequences, including respiratory, circulatory, and neurological impairment. Therefore, early recognition of severe air embolism and prompt hyperbaric oxygen therapy are essential to avoid its serious complications.

Laser induced maculopathy includes retinal photoreceptor disruption, macular hole, macular hemorrhage, and rarely choroidal neovascularization (CNV). Here we report a case of laser induced CNV that was treated by intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) injection and resulted in visual improvement and CNV resolution during 1-year follow up. In addition, the case of laser induced CNV treated with intravitreal anti-VEGF injections are reviewed for the first time in literature. ⋯ For young patients with laser induced CNV, intravitreal anti-VEGF injections may be helpful in visual improvement and CNV regression. Moreover, age seems to be a significant factor thus we propose that old animals may be more appropriate for laser induced CNV animal models of age-related macular degeneration.

The present study aimed to develop nomograms to predict survival in patients with chondroblastic osteosarcoma (COS). An analysis was conducted of 320 cases of COS collected from the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results (SEER) database between 2004 and 2015. Independent prognostic factors were screened using univariate and multivariate Cox analyses. ⋯ Next, nomograms were constructed to predict the OS and CSS in patients with COS. We constructed nomograms that can provide accurate survival predictions in patients with chondroblastic osteosarcoma. These nomograms can help surgeons customize the treatment strategies for patients with chondroblastic osteosarcoma.
