This study aimed to investigate the prognostic factors of patients after liver cancer surgery and evaluate the predictive power of nomogram. Liver cancer patients with the history of surgery in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database between 2000 and 2016 were preliminary retrieved. Patients were divided into the survival group (n = 2120, survival ≥5 years) and the death group (n = 2615, survival < 5 years). ⋯ Compared with single patients, married status was the protective factor for death in patients undergoing liver cancer surgery (HR = 0.757, 95%CI: 0.685-0.837, P < .001); the risk of death in Afro-Americans (HR = 1.300, 95%CI: 1.166-1.449, P < .001) was higher than that in Caucasians, while the occurrence of death in Asians (HR = 0.821, 95%CI: 0.1754-0.895, P < .0012) was lower; female patients had a lower incidence of death (HR = 0.875, 95%CI: 0.809-0.947, P < .001); grade II (HR = 1.167, 95%CI: 1.080-1.262, P < .001), III (HR = 1.580, 95%CI: 1.433-1.744, P < .001), and IV (HR = 1.419, 95%CI: 1.145-1.758, P = 0.001) were the risk factors for death in patients with liver cancer. The prognostic factors of liver cancer patients after surgery include the marital status, race, gender, age, grade of cancer and tumor size. The nomogram with good predictive ability can provide the prediction of 5-year survival for clinical development.

Reliable biomarkers are of great significance for the treatment and diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study identified potential prognostic epithelial-mesenchymal transition related lncRNAs (ERLs) by the cancer genome atlas (TCGA) database and bioinformatics. The differential expression of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) was obtained by analyzing the lncRNA data of 370 HCC samples in TCGA. ⋯ The results show that these prognostic markers have reliable independent predictive value. Bioinformatics analysis showed that these prognostic markers were involved in the regulation of EMT and related functions of tumor occurrence and migration. Five prognostic types of ERLs identified in this study can be used as potential biomarkers to predict the prognosis of HCC.

Electrocardiographic changes in young patients with spontaneous pneumothorax: A retrospective study.
Primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) commonly occurs in adolescents. PSP symptoms can mimic cardiac event. We aimed to examine electrocardiography (ECG) changes that accompanied PSP in relation to side and size of pneumothorax. ⋯ ECG changes were found in 21% among pediatric patients with PSP. No correlation was observed between ECG changes and side/size of pneumothorax. It is important to rule out pneumothorax among children presented with chest pain, dyspnea and ECG changes.

Aberrant PTEN, PIK3CA, pMAPK, and TP53 expression in human scalp and face angiosarcoma.
Angiosarcoma is a rare, highly aggressive malignant tumor originating from endothelial cells that line the lumen of blood or lymphatic vessels. The molecular mechanisms of scalp and face angiosarcoma still need to be elucidated. This study aimed to investigate the expression of phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN), phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate 3-kinase catalytic subunit alpha (PIK3CA), phosphorylated mitogen-activated kinase-like protein (pMAPK), and tumor protein p53 (TP53) in scalp and face angiosarcoma and to assess tumor tissue apoptosis. ⋯ The angiosarcoma tissues exhibited significantly higher apoptosis indices than the benign hemangioma tissues (P < .01). The positive expression rates of PIK3CA, pMAPK, and TP53 were correlated with the degree of tumor differentiation in the human scalp and face angiosarcoma. The PI3K, MAPK, and TP53 pathways might be involved in angiosarcoma tumorigenesis in humans and may serve as therapeutic targets for the effective treatment of this malignancy.

Animal, cell, and in vitro studies have been applied to simulate the human gastrointestinal tract (GIT) and evaluate the behavior of biomolecules. Understanding the peptides and/or proteins stability when exposed to these physiological conditions of the GIT can assist in the application of these molecules in the treatment of diseases such as obesity. This study describes a protocol of systematic reviews to analyze the methodologies that mimic the digestive and absorptive processes of peptides and/or proteins. ⋯ Both systematic reviews resulting from this protocol will provide subsidies for the construction of research related to the clinical application of bioactive peptides and/or proteins. In this context, they will make it possible to understand the gastrointestinal processes during administering these molecules, as the gastrointestinal environment can affect its functionality. Therefore, validating the effectiveness of these protocols is important, as it mimics in vitro biological conditions, reducing the use of animals, being consistent with the reduction, refine and replace program.
