Probiotics supplementation has emerged as adjuvant therapy for chronic kidney disease (CKD) in recent years. However, the effects of probiotic preparations on serum inflammatory cytokine levels are still highly controversial and poorly documented. Therefore, we performed the protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis to further clarify the effects of probiotic preparations in CKD patients. ⋯ We hypothesized that probiotic preparations may decrease the serum levels of inflammatory cytokines and protect the intestinal epithelial barrier of patients with CKD.

As the last link in the chain of cardiovascular events, chronic heart failure (CHF) has high morbidity, high mortality, and poor prognosis. It is one of the main causes of death and disability worldwide. As a new drug for the treatment of chronic cardiovascular disease, dapagliflozin, the efficacy, and safety issues are still the focus of attention. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of dapagliflozin in the treatment of CHF. ⋯ INPLASY202150046.

To describe the outcome of the patients with cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) during pregnancy and postpartum treated with anticoagulant therapy. ⋯ Pregnancy-related CVST patients had severer condition before treatment, but can achieve comparable recovery rate at 12 months after anticoagulant therapy with non-pregnancy-related women. Pregnancy-related patients with poor prognosis had less sinus sigmoid occlusion, more coma, high mRS at admission.

Acute dystonic reactions are a worrying reason for presentation to the pediatric emergency department and the pediatric neurology clinic in childhood. It must be diagnosed and treated quickly. The aim of this study was to examine the clinical presentations, etiological factors, and prognosis of patients presenting to our regional tertiary pediatric neurology clinic with a diagnosis of acute dystonic reactions in children. ⋯ No problem was observed in their follow-up. Drug-induced acute dystonic reaction can be diagnosed and has a clinical picture that completely resolves when effective treatment is applied. However, it should not be forgotten that it can reach life-threatening dimensions clinically.

Due to the rarity of solitary bone plasmacytoma (SBP), few studies reported the prognosis and survival predictors of SBP, especially for patients with extremity SBP. A total of 552 patients with extremity SBP were identified from the Surveillance Epidemiology and Ends Results (SEER) database between 1973 and 2016. In order to obtain independent predictors of survival, we performed both univariate and multivariate analysis via Cox proportional hazards model. ⋯ Our findings highlight that radiotherapy is the mainstream treatment for extremity SBP. Additionally, age, year of diagnosis, and marital status were significant independent predictors of survival. Knowledge of these survival predictors may help clinicians provide appropriate management for extremity SBP patients.
