Thyroid nodules are one of the most common entities that affect the thyroid gland. Traditionally, their treatment was surgery. Currently, ablation combination with percutaneous procedure became a good option. ⋯ The thyroid function tests, pre and postablation showed no significant changes (P > .05). Ultrasound-guided microwave-ablation of thyroid nodules is safe and effective. More clinical trials are needed to define the true use of microwave-ablation.

Proposal of a simple grading system integrating cosmetic and tonometric aspects of prostaglandin-associated periorbitopathy.
The distribution of prostaglandin-associated periorbitopathy (PAP) graded using the Shimane University PAP Grading System (SU-PAP) among glaucoma/ocular hypertension subjects using a topical FP or EP2 receptor agonist was reported. A 460 consecutive 460 Japanese subjects (211 men, 249 women; mean age ± standard deviation, 69.9 ± 14.5 years) who had used either a FP agonist (0.005% latanoprost, 0.0015% tafluprost, 0.004% travoprost, 0.03% bimatoprost, or fixed combinations of these) or EP2-agonist (0.002% omidenepag isopropyl) for more than 3 months in at least 1 eye were retrospectively enrolled. Age, sex, prostaglandin, intraocular pressure (IOP) measured by Goldmann applanation tonometry (IOPGAT) and iCare rebound tonometry (IOPRBT), difference between IOPGAT and IOPRBT (IOPGAT-RBT), PAP grade, and PAP grading items were compared among groups stratified by PAP grade or prostaglandins. ⋯ Multivariate analyses showed older age (standard β = 0.11), travoprost (0.53, referenced by latanoprost) and bimatoprost (0.65) were associated with higher PAP grades, while tafluprost (-0.18) and omidenepag (-0.73) were associated with lower PAP grades. The PAP graded using SU-PAP reflects the degree of overestimation of the IOPGAT and different severities of PAP among the different prostaglandins. SU-PAP, the grade system constructed based on the underlining mechanisms of PAP, is a simple grading system for PAP that is feasible for use in a real-world clinical situation.

To determine whether exposure to antidepressants (ATDs) results in improved overall survival (OS) of patients with gastric cancer (GC) after surgery, we conducted a large cohort study and considered confounding factors that might affect the research outcomes. Patients who received a new diagnosis of GC and received surgery and chemotherapy between 1999 and 2008 were recruited and were classified into different groups based on the ATD level used. The association between the OS of patients with GC after surgery with different levels of ATD use, and the hazard ratio with comorbidities at different ATD use levels were compared. ⋯ Additionally, the effect of ATD use still exhibited a dose-dependent relationship in distinct stratifications for sex and age. The OS for patients with GC after surgery and chemotherapy improved with ATD use, and a dose-dependent relationship was discovered in this study. Further studies on the association between OS of GC and ATD use are required.

Nephrogenic adenoma of the renal pelvis: A rare case report and review of the literature.
Nephrogenic adenoma (NA) is a rare benign lesion of the urinary tract, which rarely occurs in the renal pelvis. Only 19 cases have been reported in the literature. However, there is no detailed report on the clinicopathological features of NA of the renal pelvis. ⋯ NA of the renal pelvis is extremely rare in the clinic, which can be easily misdiagnosed and overtreated. However, for pathological diagnosis of this disease, specific immunohistochemical staining for preoperative biopsy was reported to be significant, which should be considered by the urologists and pathologists.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a risk factor for cardiac mortality. Pericoronary adipose tissue (PCAT) attenuation, expressed by the fat attenuation index on coronary computed tomography angiography, reflects pericoronary inflammation. We aimed to investigate the association between PCAT attenuation and NAFLD. ⋯ In the multivariate logistic analysis, NAFLD was independently associated with high PCAT attenuation (odds ratio 2.912, 95% confidence interval 1.386 to 6.118, P = .005). NAFLD is associated with high PCAT attenuation on coronary computed tomography angiography. This finding suggests that pericoronary inflammation is involved in the increased cardiac mortality in NAFLD patients.
