To explore the clinical efficacy of quadruple surgery (anterior segment pars plana vitrectomy + phacoemulsification + posterior capsulorhexis + intraocular lens (IOL) implantation + trabeculectomy) and dual surgery (phacoemulsification + IOL implantation + trabeculectomy) to treat medically uncontrolled acute primary angle-closure glaucoma (APACG). The clinical data of 44 patients (45 eyes) with APACG treated in the Department of Ophthalmology of Taihe Hospital were retrospectively analyzed. They were divided into 2 groups based on quadruple surgery and dual surgery. ⋯ During treatment, the incidence of complications in group B was significantly higher than that in group A (P < .01). The clinical efficacy of anterior segment pars plana vitrectomy combined with posterior capsulorhexis, phacoemulsification, and trabeculectomy elicits clinical safety in treating medically uncontrolled APACG. It has remarkable effects and leads to a significant decrease in the occurrence of complications.

Intestinal infectious diseases (IIDs) are among the most common diseases and are prevalent worldwide. IIDs are also one of the major disease groups with the highest incidence worldwide, especially among children and older adults. We observed a higher probability of IIDs in patients from the psychiatric department of Tri-Service General Hospital. ⋯ Furthermore, refractory IIDs (seeking medical attention for IIDs 3 or more times) increased the risk (aHR: 3.918; 95% CI: 3.569-4.280; P < .001) of developing psychiatric disorders. There was an association between IIDs and the increased risk of developing psychiatric disorders. The novel role of etiological factors in the development of psychiatric disorders deserves more attention, and the control of pathogens that cause IIDs is of urgent public health importance.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is caused by mutations in the NF1 gene on the long arm of chromosome 17, which affects the skin, nervous system, eyes, and skeleton system. Vertebral arteriovenous fistula (AVF) associated with neurofibromatosis type I (NF-1) is rare. ⋯ The presence of NF1 in patients who present with neurologic signs should prompt further angiography. Awareness of the coexistence between NF1 and AVF or aneurysm is crucial to avoiding diagnostic delays. Endovascular occlusion of VV-AVF in NF-1 patients is effective and safe.

To investigate the effect of Anwei Qingyou formula on the clinical treatment of patients with peptic ulcer (PU) and its effect on the levels of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). ⋯ In combination with the conventional western medicine treatment, Anwei Qingyou formula administration in PU patients effectively improves the overall control of the disease and therapeutic effectiveness.

Higher cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) infection incidence has been observed with cardiac resynchronization therapy pacemaker/defibrillator (CRT-P/D) and implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) devices compared to traditional pacemakers with a 1.2% rate reported at 1 year. CIED infection management has high morbidity/mortality. A previous study from this institution demonstrated significantly reduced CIED infection rate when peri/post-operative antibiotics were given for traditional pacemaker procedures. ⋯ This rate of 4.96 infections per 1000 device-years compares favorably to contemporary rates of 8.9 infections per 1000 device-years. Most CIED infections occur late and well-beyond the 1-year follow-up of the Prevention of Arrhythmia Device Infection Trial, the largest trial on this question. This approach should be considered pending a definitive trial.
