Tumor lysis syndrome is a potentially lethal condition caused by rapid cell death, releasing a high level of toxic cytokines. It is common in patients with hematological malignancy but rare in solid tumors. ⋯ ALPPS is a relatively new technique in liver surgery, entailing an increased risk of tumor lysis syndrome due to an in situ tumor after the first-stage operation. Clinicians should have a high index of suspicion regarding this potentially lethal complication with prompt management.

To investigate psychological response of Chinese public during the regular prevention and control of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), and explore the relationship among income loss, social support and mental health. Five hundred twenty-six participants were randomly selected by snowball sampling method. Chinese version of Perceived Psychological Stress Scale, Perceived Social Support Scale, self-rating anxiety scale, and the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 were used to measure the levels of psychological stress, social support, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. ⋯ During the regular prevention and control of COVID-19, social support might help reducing stress, anxiety, and PTSD symptoms. In addition to social support, change of income level was also an important factor for mental health. This study suggested the importance of maintaining a steady income after acute outbreak of COVID-19.

Natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (NK/TL) is a chemotherapy-sensitive disease, and asparaginase-based chemotherapy has become the standard primary treatment for patients with this malignancy recently. The objective of this study was to evaluate the adverse reactions on blood coagulation of the administered pegylated Escherichia coli (E coli) asparaginase (PEG-ASP) to the NK/TL patients. Clinical data of 71 NK/TL patients (range 13-73 years), who received 239 cycles of chemotherapy treatment containing PEG-ASP in the Hematology Department of Shanxi Province Cancer Hospital of China from January 2016 to December 2019 were analyzed retrospectively. ⋯ The D-dimer levels were no significantly change during the whole treatment course. The APTT >60 seconds or FBG <1 g/L side effects were improved by symptomatic treatment of supplementation of fresh frozen plasma or cryoprecipitate infusion, no concomitant bleeding or thrombotic events emerging. Our data suggested although chemotherapy including PEG-ASP impacted moderately on the coagulation function of NK/TL patients, clinically monitored regularly were necessary and most NK/TL patients can complete the chemotherapy cycles successfully.

Percutaneous drainage catheters (PDCs) are required for the management of benign biliary strictures refractory to first-line endoscopic treatment. While biliary patency after PDC placement exceeds 75%, long-term catheterization is occasionally necessary. In this article, we assess the outcomes of patients at our institution who required long-term PDC placement. ⋯ Drain placement ranged from 157 to 408 months. In seven patients, intrahepatic stones developed, while in one patient each, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma or hepatocellular carcinoma occurred. Long-term PDC has a high rate of complications; therefore, to avoid the need for using long-term placement, careful observation or early surgical interventions are required.

Many studies using diffusion tensor tractography (DTT) have reported trigeminal neuropathy in various neurological diseases. However, no study on traumatic trigeminal neuropathy following whiplash has been reported. ⋯ By using DTT, we demonstrated traumatic trigeminal neuropathy in a patient with whiplash. We suggest that DTT would be a useful tool for detection of traumatic trigeminal neuropathy in patients who show clinical features of trigeminal neuropathy following whiplash.
