The aim of this study is to retrospectively analyze and evaluate the effect of transverse thoracic muscle plane (TTP) block as a routine analgesic strategy for cardiac enhanced recovery after surgery in sternotomy. Patients received TTP block after general anesthesia and tracheal intubation were included in this study. The baseline clinical data of the patients, intraoperative use of sufentanil, internal mammary artery separating time, the postoperative duration of invasive ventilation, visual analogue scale, the compression times of patient-controlled intravenous analgesia in the first 3 days after surgery, and postoperative nausea and vomiting were recorded. ⋯ The postoperative duration of invasive ventilation of patients with normal and mildly impaired pulmonary function was significantly correlated to the use of sufentanil (P = .027, .009). TTP block has certain analgesic effect and can reduce sufentanil use in medium-length cardiac surgery and postoperative use of opioids. It is indicated that TTP block can be used as a routine enhanced recovery after surgery strategy for sternotomy in cardiac surgery.

During coronavirus pandemic, despite the increase in the number of studies on spontaneous pneumothorax (SP), there is not enough bibliometric study in the literature. In this study, it was aimed to analyze scientific articles published on SP. ⋯ In this comprehensive bibliometric study, we summarized 1403 articles about SP, which has an increasing trend in the number of articles during the COVID-19 pandemic process. This article can be a useful resource for clinicians and scientists through presenting a summary of worldwide studies related to SP, including the ones during COVID-19 pandemic.

Our aim in this study was to evaluate the prognostic significance of sialic acid (SA) and prolidase activity and to evaluate the association between airflow obstruction severity and these parameters in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. Ninety-four patients (84 M, 10 F) and 34 healthy subjects (19 M, 15 F) were included into the study. COPD staging was performed to COPD patients according to new global initiative for chronic obstructive lung disease criteria which includes pulmonary function tests, symptoms and hospitalization; COPD patients were divided into 4 subgroups as group A (n = 25), group B (n = 19), group C (n = 20), and group D (n = 28). ⋯ There was weak positive correlation between prolidase and FEV1 (r = 0.222, P = .033) and FEV1/forced vital capacity (r = 0.230, P = .027). Our study shows that systemic inflammation, prolidase activity, and SA levels in stable COPD patients are associated with airflow obstruction severity. In addition to the prolidase activity; SA levels might be associated with inflammation.

Liver cyst with biliary communication treated with endoscopic ultrasound-guided drainage: A case report.
Simple liver cysts are common, and usually benign and asymptomatic, requiring little to no treatment. Liver cysts with biliary communication, however, are rare and require effective treatment to avoid recurrence. ⋯ Endoscopic ultrasound-guided drainage can treat liver cyst with biliary communication.

Left bundle branch area pacing (LBBaP) has recently emerged as a new physiological pacing strategy. The purpose of this study is to compare LBBaP with right ventricular sepal pacing (RVSP) in terms of their clinical safety and efficacy. From February 2019 to May 2020, consecutive pacing-indicated patients were prospectively enrolled and divided into 2 groups. ⋯ No serious complications were found in both 2 groups at implantation and follow-ups. This study confirms the clinical safety and efficacy of LBBaP, and it produces better ventricular electrical-mechanical synchrony than RVSP. The event of pacing-induced left ventricular dysfunction is lower in the LBBaP-H group than RVSP-H group.
