This study aimed to investigate the short-term effectiveness of scapular focused taping (SFT) on scapular position and kinematics during the tennis serve among professional players with and without shoulder pain. The cohort included 7 players who had no history of non-shoulder pain (NSP) and 6 players with shoulder pain (SP). All participants performed tennis flat serves while the Qualisys motion capture system recorded three-dimensional scapular kinematic data according to the International Society of Biomechanics recommendations. ⋯ SFT had a positive immediate effect on the scapular posterior tilting and external rotation during certain phases of the tennis serve among tennis athletes with and without shoulder pain. These findings may help clinicians and sports practitioners to prevent and rehabilitate shoulder injuries for overhead athletes. Level of evidence: Level III; Case-Control Design; Comparative Study.

The World Health Organization states prevention of chronic diseases should be based on good lifestyle behaviors and healthy diets as they can reduce the risk of chronic diseases by 80%. The theory of traditional Chinese medicine constitution (TCMC) emphasizes the congenital differences of TCMC stem from the genes of parents, while acquired differences in TCMC are caused by factors as living environments, lifestyle behaviors, and dietary habits. From the perspective of preventive medicine, this study explores the correlation between dietary habits and lifestyle behaviors as potential risk factors for different types of TCMC-balanced constitution, Yang deficiency, Yin deficiency, and Phlegm stasis. ⋯ Variables that affected TCMC were smoking, midnight snack consumption, consumption of gravy-soaked or lard-soaked rice/noodles, deep-fried soybean products, bread spread, pickled vegetables as side dishes for the main course of a meal, and the dietary habit of vegetables or fruits instead of high-fat desserts. Poor dietary habits and lifestyle behaviors are the cause of unbalanced TCMCs. Understanding the specific TCMC of individual can provide useful information and predictions to maintain physical health and achieve early disease prevention to meet the goal of preventive medicine.

Chronic pain coexists with disability, anxiety, depression, and sleep disturbances, which are factors of pain chronicity in the fear-avoidance model. Self-efficacy for managing pain plays a protective role against pain chronicity. For chronic pain sufferers, social support from caregivers is important. ⋯ Caregiver burden correlated with the pain intensity, pain catastrophizing, anxiety, depression, disability, and self-efficacy of chronic pain patients. Among these factors, self-efficacy was the most negatively correlated with caregiver burden. Treatments focused on increasing self-efficacy for managing pain have the potential to reduce caregiver burden.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most lethal malignancies with a rise in mortality rates. FOLFIRINOX and nab-paclitaxel plus gemcitabine demonstrated a survival benefit compared to gemcitabine alone. Both protocols are now considered the standard of first-line treatment with no significant difference between them, primarily based on observational studies. ⋯ In our analysis ECOG performance status (p.s.), previous primary tumor surgery, and liver involvement were found to be independent prognostic factors. The addition of nab-paclitaxel to gemcitabine resulted in a significant improvement in the OS of patients with mPDAC. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that patients with some unfavorable prognostic factors benefited the most.

Paralytic ileus occurs in up to 18% of the patients with pelvic bone fractures. The aim of this study is to determine if massive bleeding requiring arterial angio-embolization is related with the duration of ileus in patients with traumatic pelvic ring injuries. This retrospective study included 25 patients who underwent arterial angio-embolization for traumatic pelvic ring injuries. ⋯ The amount of packed red blood cell transfusions was associated with a greater risk of prolonged ileus development (P = .03, odds ratio = 2.04, 95% confidence interval = 1.08-3.88). This study supports the idea that the duration of the ileus is related with the amount of bleeding caused by the traumatic pelvic ring injury. In order to prevent further complications, conservative treatments of the ileus should be considered.
