The study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between fibromyalgia (FM) disease and depression, anxiety, anxiety sensitivity, fear-avoidance beliefs, and quality of life in female patients with a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. 37 female patients followed up with FM diagnosis in pain medicine clinic and a control group consisting of 37 healthy women were included in the study. Sociodemographic and Clinical Characteristics Data Form, Quality of Life Form, fear-avoidance beliefs questionnaire, Anxiety Sensitivity Index-3, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, and Visual Analogue Scale was applied to the participants. When the patients in the FM group were compared to the control group; Statistically lower scores in all Quality of Life Form subscales except emotional role difficulty and social functionality scores; statistically higher scores in both physical and work activity subscales in fear-avoidance beliefs questionnaire; statistically higher scores in cognitive symptoms subscale in Anxiety Sensitivity Index-3, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, and Visual Analogue Scale scores were found. ⋯ It was determined that the functionality and quality of life of patients diagnosed with FM decreased in daily life. An important contribution of the study to the literature is that it shows that the behavior of avoiding activity due to pain-induced fear exacerbates the pain and even contributes to its chronicity. These results, which show the effects of anxiety, depression, anxiety sensitivity, and fear-avoidance behavior on the prognosis of the disease in FM patients, indicate that psychiatric evaluation and treatment in FM patients is an important factor that determines the functionality and quality of life.

Preeclampsia (PE) is a syndromic disorder that affects 2% to 8% of pregnancies and is diagnosed principally when hypertension appears in the second-d half of pregnancy. WHO estimates the incidence of PE to be seven times higher in developing countries than in developed countries. Severe preeclampsia/eclampsia is one of the most important causes of maternal mortality, associated with 50,000 to 100,000 annual deaths globally as well as serious fetal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, especially in developing countries. Even though evidence from family-based studies suggest PE has a heritable component, its etiology, and specific genetic contributions remain unclear. Many studies examining the genetic factors contributing to PE have been conducted, most of them are focused on single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Given that PE has a very important inflammatory component, is mandatory to examine cytokine-SNPs for elucidating all mechanisms involved in this pathology. In this review, we describe the most important cytokine-polymorphisms associated with the onset and development of PE. We aim to provide current and relevant evidence in this regard. ⋯ The changes in Th1/Th2/Th17 response modify processes such as placentation, control of inflammation, and vascular function. Nonetheless, association studies have shown different results depending on sample size, diagnostic, and population.

To evaluate whether the higher attenuation value [Hounsfield unit (HU)] in non-contrast CT can predict pyonephrosis in patients with upper urinary tract stones (UTS). Between October 2019 and October 2021, patients with hydronephrosis or pyonephrosis secondary to upper UTS were retrospectively searched in our study. All patients with UTS were treated with percutaneous nephrostomy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy, retrograde ureteral stent or transurethral ureteroscope lithotripsy. ⋯ A total of 240 patients with UTS were retrospected in this research, 191 patients had hydronephrosis (Group 1), and 49 patients had hydronephrosis with pyonephrosis (Group 2). The HU value of the renal collecting system in Group 2 (mean, 15.46; range, +1/+30) was significantly higher than that in Group 1 (mean, 5.5; 5 range -6/+24) (P = .02); the receiver operative characteristic curve analysis revealed that the best cut-off value of 9.5 could predict the presence of pyonephrosis, with 71.4% sensitivity and 70.2% specificity (area under the curve = 0.613; 95% CI: 0.514-0.713). In this study, we found the HU attenuation value of the renal collecting system can be used to distinguish pyonephrosis from hydronephrosis in patients with UTS.

Intraoperative innominate artery injury is life-threatening in tracheomalacia patients with prolonged tracheostomy. Anesthetic management is challenging in cases with massive hemorrhage into the endotracheal tube. We report a case in which we successfully managed a tracheomalacia patient with acute endotracheal bleeding due to innominate artery injury. ⋯ Immediate and appropriate overinflation of the endotracheal tube cuff by an anesthesiologist may provide improved surgical field visibility and time for critical surgical procedures in cases of massive hemorrhaging.

Effectiveness of a physical activity intervention on the overweight and obesity of Chilean schoolchildren.
Physical fitness is considered a measure that integrates most of the functions of the human organism that are involved in physical activity. Motor competence is important due to its observed implications in the physical, mental and social development of children and adolescents. These assessments require the existence of updated reference values that allow the categorization of individuals and groups according to levels of physical fitness and motor competence. This paper describes the study protocol to Effectiveness of a Physical Activity Intervention on the Overweight and Obesity of Chilean Schoolchildren, and in this way determine, through the calculation of a representative sample, reference values for physical fitness and motor competence in children aged 4 to 6 years in the region of La Araucanía, Chile. ⋯ the lack of reference values for physical condition and motor competence for children between 6 and 4 years of age in the Araucanía region highlights the need to establish values, which will contribute to improving the health of children of the age group to be worked on.
