Postoperative pain occurs immediately after surgery. The most common perioperative analgesic methods are nerve block, patient-controlled intravenous analgesia, and patient-controlled epidural analgesia. However, overuse of opioid analgesics can cause many adverse reactions including excessive sedation, respiratory inhibition, postoperative nausea, and vomiting. ⋯ Perioperative acupuncture has benefits in reducing postoperative pain and opioid need. Although analgesic drugs are still the primary means of postoperative pain control, acupuncture provides a safe analgesic supplement or alternative. This review aimed to assist practitioners in choosing appropriate perioperative acupuncture methods by summarizing the recent literature on the role of different acupuncture approaches for perioperative pain management.

Neurotoxicity could be induced by long exposure to manganese (Mn). The traditional Chinese medicine, Corididius chinensis (Cc) has been proven to have a certain curative effect on Mn poisoning. Therefore, network pharmacology was performed to explore potential therapeutic targets and pharmacological mechanisms of Cc. ⋯ The pathways of neurodegeneration_multiple diseases and Alzheimer disease pathway may be the most potential pathway of Cc treating Mn-induced nervous system diseases. CASP9 and PTGS2 in neurodegeneration_multiple diseases, NOS1, NOS2 in Alzheimer disease pathway were identified as core targets. Especially, molecule docking analysis unveil that aspongpyrazine A docking NOS2 is the most potential therapeutic drug and target, which primarily involved in the processes of oxidative stress and inflammation.

HIV-related neurocognitive disorders (HAND) have emerged as a significant concern in the context of HIV infection. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the diagnosis, treatment, and mental health implications associated with HAND. Diagnosis of HAND involves a multifaceted approach, combining clinical assessments, neurocognitive testing, and neuroimaging techniques. ⋯ Furthermore, this paper highlights the need for ongoing research to unravel the underlying mechanisms of HAND and develop targeted interventions. Identifying risk factors, understanding the impact of HIV on the brain, and exploring novel treatment modalities are essential areas of focus. Additionally, living with HAND social and cultural aspects must be considered to ensure equitable access to care and support for all affected individuals.

Long-stranded noncoding RNAs (LncRNAs) are noncoding RNAs >200 nucleotides in length. Polycytidine binding protein 1 antisense LncRNA is abbreviated as LncRNA polycytosine binding protein 1 antisense1 (PCBP1-AS1). Since studies in recent years have revealed the importance of PCBP1-AS1 in human genetic analysis, it is an important member of the LncRNA family. ⋯ Overall, it can both promote and inhibit the development of cancer. For example, abnormally high expression in castration-resitant prostate cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, cervical cancer, glioma, and colorectal cancer promotes the proliferation and progression of these cancers; in contrast, PCBP1-AS1 inhibits cancer proliferation, metastasis, invasion, and recurrence when highly expressed in vulvar squamous cell carcinoma, Hodgkin lymphoma, and lung adenocarcinoma. PCBP1-AS1 regulates the development of multiple tumors, and the specific mechanism needs to be further investigated, which may become a new tumor marker and potential therapeutic target.

Effect of manual hyperinflation with versus without positive end-expiratory pressure on dynamic compliance in pediatric patients following congenital heart surgery: A randomized controlled trial.
We aimed to compare the effect of manual hyperinflation with versus without positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) on dynamic compliance of the respiratory system in pediatric patients undergoing congenital heart surgery; to assess the safety of the technique in this population. ⋯ Manual hyperinflation was safe and well tolerated in pediatric patients following surgery for congenital heart disease. No significant change in dynamic compliance of the respiratory system or in oxygenation was observed with the use of manual hyperinflation with or without PEEP in this population.
