Observational Study
Effect of basiliximab use on the risk of postoperative infection and death after heart transplantation: An observational study.
Heart transplantation (HT) has become the preferred treatment for end-stage heart disease, but postoperative complications such as infection still threaten the prognosis of HT patients. Basiliximab can help minimize immune rejection. However, there is a lack of relevant information to compare the prognosis of different immunosuppression regimens. ⋯ The postoperative survival rate (hazard ratio 0.08, 95% confidence interval 0.01-0.65, P = .018) and survival against infection (hazard ratio 0.24, 95% confidence interval 0.09-0.64, P = .004) were significantly higher among patients receiving basiliximab treatment than among those not receiving treatment. Our study showed that basiliximab use was closely associated with the rate of postoperative death and infection after HT. HT patients with additional basiliximab administration as immunosuppressive treatment had a better clinical prognosis.

This study explores the role of combining the controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score and the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level on predicting tumor stage and prognosis in gastric cancer (GC) patients. A total of 682 GC patients were included in this retrospective study. CONUT scores and CEA levels were combined to establish a new scoring system: CONUT-CEA score. cutoff values for distinguishing patients between stage IV and non-stage IV were established by receiver operating characteristic curves. cutoff values for predicting prognosis were determined by maximum χ2 method. ⋯ Among non-stage IV patients, CONUT and CEA cutoff values of 2.0 and 9.50 ng/mL predicted overall survival (OS), respectively. The Cox proportional risk model revealed that high CONUT-CEA score was notable related to decreased OS (2 vs 0: hazard ratios (HR) = 2.358, 95% confidence intervals (CI) = 1.412-3.940, P = .001) and decreased disease-free survival (2 vs 0: HR = 1.980, 95% CI = 1.072-3.656, P = .003). The CONUT-CEA score may be a good biomarker for predicting tumor stage and prognosis in GC patients.

Delay in seeking medical attention for high fever and inadequate diagnosis can lead to rapid progression of inflammation and spread to surrounding tissues and organs. Staphylococcus aureus is a common cause of systemic infections, and infectious endocarditis can swiftly become severe; therefore, careful management is required. ⋯ Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia can cause fatal complications. Even when symptoms of meningitis are suspected, it is essential to examine the patient for endocarditis. Delayed diagnosis can lead to fatal endocarditis-related complications.

Dry eye disease is one of the most common eye diseases. Clinical studies have found that meibomian gland expression can effectively improve the function of meibomian glands in patients with meibomian gland dysfunction. Compared with traditional appointments, Internet appointment has advantages in treating dry eye disease. ⋯ Spearman correlation coefficient displayed that SOAIB was significantly correlated with EEIB (ρ = -0.247, P < .001) and WMT (ρ = 0.157, P = .006). Internet appointment can effectively reduce the waiting time for dry eye disease treatment by meibomian gland expression. Effectiveness evaluation of Internet appointments is significantly higher than traditional appointments.

TNFAIP8L1, as a recently identified member in TNFAIP8 family, plays an important role in tumorigenesis. However, a pan-cancer analysis of TNFAIP8L1 in human tumors has not been conducted until now. The main purpose of study is to investigate TNFAIP8L1 during 33 different types of human tumors by using TCGA and GTEx. ⋯ Finally, TNFAIP8L1 gene had a significant positive association with 5 genes including BCL6B, DLL4, PCDH12, COL4A1 and DLL4 in the majority of tumors. GO enrichment and KEGG pathway analyses showed that TNFAIP8L1 in thepathogenesis of cancer may be related to "purine nucleoside binding," "purine ribonucleoside binding," "ECM-receptor interaction," etc. Our first pan-cancer study may provide a deep comprehending of TNFAIP8L1 in tumoeigenesis from different tumors.
