The high level of academic stress and maladjustment in the school environment led to this study to investigate the management of academic stress and school adjustment among university students using rational emotive behavioral therapy. ⋯ This study suggests that the reduction in academic stress and improvement in the academic adjustment were due to exposure to rational emotive behavioral therapy. Therefore, school counselors should reach out to students that experiencing a high degree of stress and maladjustment and assist them using rational emotive behavioral therapy.

Primary Sjögren syndrome (pSS) is a systemic autoimmue disease featured by excessive autoantibody production. It has been demonstrated that anti-carbonic anhydrase II (anti-CA II) antibody is correlated with renal tubular acidosis in pSS; however, no further details about urinary acidification defect have been reported, and the antibody's relationship with other organ impairments remains unknown. This case-control study aimed to examine anti-CA II antibody levels in relation to various systemic complications in pSS, and evaluate its potential role as a organ-specific biomarker in a Chinese cohort. ⋯ Further analysis showed that anti-CA II antibody was most elevated in patients with defect in bicarbonate reabsorption, reflecting proximal renal tubular injury, rather than in patients with distal renal tubular acidosis as previously reported. In conclusion, anti-CA II antibody reflects renal (especially proximal renal tubular) and hematologic impairment as well as increased disease activity in pSS. It may act as a serum biomarker of systemic damage of pSS.

The triglyceride glucose (TyG) index is an indicator of insulin resistance and associated with increased risk of diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular events. Our study investigates the correlation between TyG index and contrast induced nephropathy (CIN) in non-diabetic patients with non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). 350 non-diabetic NSTEMI patients (183, 52.3% male) undergoing PCI were retrospectively enrolled. The enrolled cohort was divided into 2 groups based on the calculated TyG index, namely values < 8.65 or higher. ⋯ In addition, TyG index, age, and glomerular filtration rate were identified as independent risk factors for CIN in logistic regression model (OR: 2.5 CI: 1.3-4.6, P .006, OR: 1.0 CI: 1.0-1.1, P < .001, OR: 1.0 KI: 1.03-1.06, P .025). In the ROC analysis, the area under the curve predictive of CIN was 0.666 (P < .001, 95% [CI] 0.58-0.75) with a cutoff value of 8.69 (sensitivity 71,4%, specificity 55.1%) TyG index. Higher TyG indexes are associated with an increased risk of CIN in non-diabetic patients with NSTEMI.

Serum amylase is a direct reflection of pancreatic injury. Several clinical studies have indicated that antiretroviral therapy may be the main cause of increased serum amylase in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLWH). However, other probable causes including direct human immunodeficiency virus infection, opportunistic infections and neoplasms, alcohol abuse, and use of illicit drugs, which can also affect pancreatic amylase levels were not considered in these studies. ⋯ In multiple linear regression analyses, CD4 cell counts (β = -0.327, 95% confidence interval = -0.051--0.022, P < .001) were independently associated with serum amylase levels. CD4 cell counts were independently associated with serum amylase levels in newly diagnosed PLWH. Thus, close monitoring of serum amylase may be significant in preventing opportunistic infections of PLWH, since low CD4 cell counts are associated with an increased risk of opportunistic infections.

To explore and analyze the expression of eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 2 (eEF1A2) gene in cervical cancer tissues, its relationship with patient survival, gene mutations, and changes in copy number in cervical cancer and chronic cervicitis tissues. ⋯ The eEF1A2 gene was mutated in cervical cancer tissues. The eEF1A2 gene copy number was not associated with changes in the expression of the eEF1A2 gene in cervical cancer tissues.
