Combined acupuncture-medicine anesthesia used in thyroid surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Combined acupuncture-medicine anesthesia (CAMA) is extensively used in thyroid surgery in China. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the efficacy and safety of CAMA. ⋯ Combined acupuncture-medicine anesthesia significantly increases the anesthesia significance rate, reduces the intraoperative heart rate, and blood pressure, and reduces the incidence of postoperative adverse reactions. However, more high-quality future studies should be conducted to validate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture combined anesthesia further.

Association of several loci of SMAD7 with colorectal cancer: A meta-analysis based on case-control studies.
Sma-and mad-related protein 7 (SMAD7) can affect tumor progression by closing transforming growth factor-beta intracellular signaling channels. Despite the extensive research on the correlation between SMAD7 polymorphisms and colorectal cancer (CRC), the conclusions of studies are still contradictory. We conducted a study focusing on the association of SMAD7 polymorphisms rs4939827, rs4464148, and rs12953717 with CRC. ⋯ Rs4939827 (T > C) can decrease the susceptibility to CRC. However, the rs4464148 (T > C) and rs12953717 (C > T) variants were connected with an enhanced risk of CRC.

Safety and efficacy of etomidate in combination with oxycodone in painless gastroscopic procedures in the elderly: A prospective randomized controlled trial study.
Etomidate is often combined in rapid succession during induction of anesthesia. However, the effect of pretreatment with oxycodone on recovery of cognitive function and adverse effects has rarely been studied. We conducted a prospective randomized controlled trial to compare etomidate alone with etomidate combined with oxycodone in elderly patients undergoing painless gastroscopy. ⋯ Etomidate in combination with oxycodone for painless gastroscopic operation in the elderly is a safe and effective anesthetic strategy.

Association of vitamin D receptor polymorphisms with colorectal cancer susceptibility: A systematic meta-analysis.
Recent studies have reported an association between vitamin D receptor (VDR) polymorphisms and colorectal cancer (CRC) risk; however, the results are controversial. This meta-analysis was performed to investigate whether the Cdx-2, Tru9I, FokI, BsmI, TaqI, and ApaI polymorphisms were correlated with CRC susceptibility. ⋯ Our findings indicate that VDR polymorphisms are significantly associated with CRC risk.

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is the most common neuropathy in the world, mainly manifested as bilateral symmetry numbness, pain or paresthesia, with a high rate of disability and mortality. Schwann cells (SCs), derived from neural ridge cells, are the largest number of glial cells in the peripheral nervous system, and play an important role in DPN. Studies have found that SCs are closely related to the pathogenesis of DPN, such as oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum stress, inflammation, impaired neurotrophic support and dyslipidemia. This article reviews the mechanism of SCs in DPN.
