The significant outcome of bariatric surgery (BS) is weight loss, which may be affected by many factors, such as initial body weight before surgery, sex, and dietary intake. Moreover, rapid weight loss is associated with an increased incidence of postsurgical cholelithiasis. To investigate the observed weight loss outcomes during the first year after BS, we investigated the factors that may influence weight loss and to detect the efficacy of prophylactic ursodeoxycholic acid against gallstone formation. ⋯ A significant correlation was found between the percent of excess weight loss and age, initial body mass index, and initial weight, but there was no significant correlation with sex or type of surgery. The incidence of postoperative cholecystectomy is almost negligible. A significant association was found between age and weight loss after BS. ursodeoxycholic acid is an effective prophylaxis to decrease the incidence of cholecystectomy after BS.

Hotly used in student-centered medical education worldwide, case based learning (CBL) is worthen with WeChat, the most popular communication app and is widely used in all walks of life. We have practiced several years combining WeChat and CBL in the clinical training of oral medicine for young doctors, promoting outcomes over traditional bedside training. This article's objective is demonstrating the acceptability and merits of WeChat CBL in the clinical training of oral medicine for young doctor. ⋯ The twice and above Q&A action percentage is 40% in experimental group rather than 25% in control group. Daily assessment and final examination scores in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < .001). WeChat CBL mode has a positive effect on students' learning enthusiasm, assessments and evaluations in clinical training of oral medicine.

β-2 microglobulin, a light chain in the major histocompatibility complex Class 1 molecule, is associated with mortality in dialysis or uremic patients. Current evidence on the relationship between beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) and mortality in the general and non-chronic kidney disease (CKD) population are limited and controversial. Data from the nutrition and health examination survey database and the nutrition and health examination survey linked mortality file were used. ⋯ Based on the multivariable adjustment model, the adjusted hazard ratios comparing the highest versus lowest quartile of the distribution of B2M were 2.50 (95% confidence interval: 1.90, 3.28) for all-cause mortality in the general population, 2.58 (95% confidence interval: 1.52, 4.37) for cardiovascular disease mortality in the general population, 2.58 (1.91, 3.49) for all-cause mortality in the non-CKD population and 2.62 (1.52, 4.53) for cardiovascular disease mortality in the non-CKD population. The positive associations between B2M and outcomes remained broadly significant across subgroups and sensitivity analyses. Higher B2M levels were associated with cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in the general and non-CKD population.

Chronic lymphocytic inflammation with pontine perivascular enhancement responsive to steroids (CLIPPERS) is still a rare autoimmune disease in the world. In recent years, there are more and more reports about the clinical manifestations of CLIPPERS, but the specific etiology and pathogenesis are not clear. In this paper, by collating the literature reported in recent years, in the reported effective treatment cases, we found the current hypothesis about the pathogenesis of CLIPPERS. ⋯ In the future, more observations and studies are needed to further verify the feasibility of the hypothesis. This article expands on atypical clinical manifestations and summarizes treatment options. Hope to provide a reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment of CLIPPERS.

Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease caused by Brucella. There is no effective vaccine against human brucellosis. Omp19 and Omp25 are the outer membrane proteins of Brucella. ⋯ Finally, 5 B cell epitopes, 3 Th-cell epitopes and 5 CTL cell epitopes of Omp19 protein, and 4 B cell epitopes, 3 Th-cell epitopes, and 5 CTL cell epitopes of Omp25 protein were selected as vaccine candidates. In conclusion, we obtained potential B cell and T cell epitopes of the Brucella outer membrane Omp19 and Omp25 proteins. This lays the foundation for the further design of multi-epitope vaccine of Brucella.
