NOTCH2NLC mutation-positive neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease with retinal dystrophy: A case report and literature review.
Neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID) is a neurodegenerative disorder that produces a broad spectrum of clinical conditions such as dementia, upper motor neuron involvement, extrapyramidal symptoms, and neuropathy. Some studies have reported ophthalmological conditions associated with the disease; however, the details of these conditions remain unclear. ⋯ NOTCH2NLC mutation-positive NIID may be associated with retinal dystrophy. Brain magnetic resonance imaging and skin biopsy are helpful diagnostic clues, and gene analysis is crucial for accurate diagnosis and appropriate management.

Clinical study of rhGM-CSF for the treatment of pulmonary exogenous acute respiratory distress syndrome by modulating alveolar macrophage subtypes: A randomized controlled trial.
By modulating the oxygen partial pressure of alveolar epithelial cells, the granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) can stimulate and enhance the innate immune response in the lungs. This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of rhGM-CSF in patients suffering from extrapulmonary-induced acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ⋯ Administering rhGM-CSF to ARDS patients improves lung function and decreases blood inflammation. Nonetheless, while this treatment demonstrates efficacy in reducing these parameters, it does not significantly impact the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia or 28-day mortality in ARDS patients.

Analysis of potential biomarkers and immune infiltration in autism based on bioinformatics analysis.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder caused by both environmental and genetic factors. However, its etiology and pathogenesis remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to establish an immune-related diagnostic model for ASD using bioinformatics methods and to identify ASD biomarkers. ⋯ Finally, the differential genes and immune infiltration in ASD and non-ASD patients were compared, and the most relevant genes were selected to construct the first immune correlation prediction model of ASD. After the calculation, the model exhibited better accuracy. The calculations show that the model has good accuracy.

Intraoperative phenylephrine infusion to reduce perioperative shivering in lower segment caesarean section: A randomised controlled study.
Shivering is described as an involuntary, repetitive activity of the skeletal muscles that can have deleterious effects on anaesthetized patients. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of phenylephrine infusion in preventing perioperative shivering in patients undergoing lower segment cesarean section under spinal anesthesia and to observe the change in the patient's core temperature between the study and control groups. ⋯ Phenylephrine infusion reduces the incidence of perioperative shivering in lower segment cesarean sections under spinal anesthesia.

Prevalence and global trends of polypharmacy in patients with chronic liver disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Despite its central role in drug metabolism, the exact prevalence estimates and factors affecting global trends of polypharmacy in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) have remained unexamined. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to estimate the prevalence of polypharmacy in patients with CLD and to comprehensively synthesize the socio-demographic factors that drive this. ⋯ In an examination of multiple community- and hospital-based databases of patients with CLD, we found a pooled prevalence estimate of polypharmacy of approximately 31%. This represents a case burden within the range reported in the general population and will likely respond to mitigation strategies employed thus far for patients in that population.
