Lymph node (LN) metastasis is known to impact the prognosis of patients with well-differentiated thyroid cancer. Herein, we aimed to determine the effect of NX stage on the prognosis of patients with papillary thyroid cancer who underwent thyroid lobectomy. We initially selected 1257 patients who underwent thyroid cancer surgery from 2012 to 2015. ⋯ Considering the T1b stage, the 5-year RFS rates were 100%, 93.1%, and 93.7% in the N0, N1, and NX groups, respectively, with a statistically significant difference between the 3 groups (P = .018). Accordingly, the NX status cannot be deemed a prognostic factor for RFS in patients with papillary thyroid cancer who underwent thyroid lobectomy. However, the benefit of prophylactic central-LN dissection should be considered in patients with well-differentiated thyroid cancer diagnosed with T1b stage.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a debilitating condition, with a life expectancy of 2 to 5 years after diagnosis. Pirfenidone is a drug that has been shown to reduce the decline in forced vital capacity (FVC). We sought to identify whether different patterns on high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) have different clinical effects through a retrospective comparison of baseline values and changes in pulmonary function tests (PFTs) after treatment with pirfenidone. ⋯ The improvement in % diffusion capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (%DLCO) was higher in the possible UIP group after 6 and 12 months of pirfenidone treatment (P = .149, 0.026, and 0.025, respectively). The annual decrease in FVC was not significantly different between the 2 groups, and the annual decrease in %DLCO in the UIP group was significantly higher than that in patients with the possible UIP type (-7.767 ± 12.797 vs 0.342 ± 20.358, P < .05). These results indicate that patients with IPF with a possible UIP pattern on HRCT showed indications of a good response to pirfenidone.

The present study aimed to compare the efficacy of 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT and 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging in the diagnosis, staging, and prognosis evaluation of neuroendocrine tumors (NET). A total of 55 patients (43 were initially evaluated, 12 were evaluated after treatment) who underwent fluorine-18 labeled fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) and 68Ga DOTATE PET/CT examinations were reviewed retrospectively, and the pathological data were collected. In the initial evaluation, 27/43 were pathologically confirmed as NET patients, as detected by gallium-68 labeld 1, 4, 7, 10-tetraazacyclododecane-1, 4, 7, 10-tetraaceticacid-D-Phel-Tyr3-Thr8-OC; among them, 23 were correctly detected by 18F-FDG. ⋯ Strikingly, gallium-68 labeld 1, 4, 7, 10-tetraazacyclododecane-1, 4, 7, 10-tetraaceticacid-D-Phel-Tyr3-Thr8-OC had higher maximum standard uptake value than 18F-FDG but was negatively related to the NET grade for the former, while the latter was positively related to the NET. The value of 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT in the diagnosis and staging of NET is higher than that of 18F-FDG PET/CT in NETs, while the value of 18F-FDG PET/CT cannot be ignored in the NET. The combined application of the 2 tracers has major clinical significance in the management of patients with NET.

Human infection with Angiostrongylus cantonensis is uncommon and has only been sporadically reported in the literature. Patients infected with A cantonensis usually have a delayed diagnosis and sometimes a poor prognosis. ⋯ Because the direct identification of parasites is difficult, high-throughput metagenomics analysis may provide a reliable alternative tool for the diagnoses of infection with A cantonensis. When albendazole is prescribed, caution must be taken with respect to its liver toxicity.

Patients with metastatic breast cancer have a poor clinical outcome, accounting for more than 90 percent of breast cancer-related deaths. Aging could regulate many biological processes in malignancies by regulating cell senescence. The role of aging has not been fully clarified. ⋯ The current study identified 3 clusters of TCGA-breast cancer cases with significant differences in prognosis and immune infiltration. We also constructed an aging-related prognostic signature for breast cancer. However, further in vivo and in vitro studies should be conducted to verify these results.
