Observational Study
Association between successful weaning from nasogastric tube feeding and thoracic muscle mass in patients with aspiration pneumonia.
Nasogastric tube feeding is often used to provide optimal nutrition and hydration in patients with aspiration pneumonia. However, evidence regarding radiologic indicators for successful nasogastric tube weaning is lacking. We investigated whether thoracic skeletal muscle assessment can be useful for predicting successful weaning from nasogastric tube feeding in patients with aspiration pneumonia. ⋯ After adjusting for covariables related to successful weaning, skeletal muscle areas, indices, and volume indices were positively associated with successful nasogastric tube weaning. Although VFSS results and skeletal muscle parameters alone showed suboptimal performance for predicting successful weaning, a prediction model combining skeletal muscle index at the T4 level and VFSS results improved the prediction performance to an acceptable level (AUC ≥ 0.7). Skeletal muscle index measured at the T4 level may be a useful supplementary indicator for predicting successful weaning from nasogastric tube feeding in patients with aspiration pneumonia.

This study aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of Allium ureteral stents for the maintenance therapy of malignant ureteral obstruction (MUO). Clinical data of 25 patients (27 sides) with ureteral obstruction caused by a malignant tumor from December 2018 to December 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Preoperative ultrasonography and computed tomography urography indicated hydronephrosis and MUO. ⋯ The stent patency rate was 88.9% (24/27) after the first operation, and 100% (27/27) after complications were treated. The Allium ureteral stent is safe and effective for the maintenance therapy of MUO, which can dramatically relieve the symptoms of patients. Stent migration is a major complication that can be resolved by endoscopic adjustment.

To analyze and compare the clinicopathological characteristics of male breast cancer (MBC) among Chinese patients and those from East Asia and other regions. Clinicopathological data from 3 kinds of data sources, including 31 MBC patients in Jiangsu Provincial Hospital (JPH) from 2014 to 2021 in China, 20 literature data on East Asian MBC patients from 2014 to 2021, and 3102 MBC patients registered in the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results (SEER) database from 2014 to 2019, were collected and retrospectively analyzed. The average ages of first-diagnosis MBC patients in JPH and East Asian patients were 59.7 and 62.3 years old, respectively, which were younger than those of SEER patients (66.5 years old). ⋯ JPH and East Asian MBC patients were younger than SEER patients. Between East Asian and SEER patients, the status of the main breast cancer type, estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2, breast subtype, and TNM stage were similar, but there were differences in chemotherapy, surgery, pathological grade, and lymph node positivity. The findings of this study should prove to be helpful to deepen our understanding of East Asian MBC.

In 1865, Trousseau first discovered pulmonary embolism caused by multiple venous thrombosis in patients with gastric cancer, and later all clinical manifestations of malignant patients during pathogenesis due to abnormal coagulation and fibrinolysis were referred to collectively as Trousseau syndrome. Trousseau syndrome is not a benign thrombophlebitis, and when diagnosed it requires immediate treatment. The survival rate over 1 year is only 12%. Stroke in cancer patients has distinct characteristics different from conventional stroke and has higher mortality. ⋯ The raise of D-dimer and typical magnetic resonance imaging manifestation which provides a greater basis for diagnosis. The specific abnormal laboratory index is the increase of D-dimer, which provides direction for treatment and helps to evaluate treatment effect.

Case Reports
Root canal treatment of a six-canal first mandibular molar with extensive periapical lesion: A case report.
There is an increasing tendency for case reports to reveal anatomical aberrances in mandibular first molars, such as the lateral and accessory canals. Thus, clinicians should pay special attention to anatomic variances when dealing with mandibular first molars requiring endodontic treatment to prevent reinfection within the root canal system, which is responsible for the failure of root canal treatment. ⋯ The present case emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive understanding of root canal morphology, especially rare anatomical variations, to ensure successful root canal treatment. Additionally, the case report adds to the library of previously reported cases of extensive periapical lesions with a direct connection to the root canal system, which demonstrates the potential clinical advantages of root canal therapy as a conservative nonsurgical approach in these cases.
