Arytenoid dislocation (AD) is a rare complication of surgery under general anesthesia. The potential factors for AD remain poorly defined, and the identification of risk factors is beneficial for reducing its incidence. We found that patients undergoing liver transplantation appeared to be more susceptible to postoperative AD at our hospital. ⋯ Postoperative AD incidence was significantly elevated in patients undergoing liver transplantation. This finding should be clinically relevant and alarming for anesthesiologists and clinicians to help avoid arytenoid dislocation and improve patient outcomes. Further studies that incorporate detailed data are needed to determine risk factors for AD.

Capecitabine-based neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) is the standard treatment for locally advanced rectal cancer. The objective of this study is to analyze overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS) and prognostic factors of patients with stage II to III rectal cancer treated with nCRT in our institution. Between March 2014 to June 2020, 121 locally advanced rectal cancer patients were retrospectively reviewed and analyzed. ⋯ CRT with capecitabine based regimen provides high rates of survival and sphincter preservation with acceptable toxicity. YpTNM stage was significantly associated with DFS; magnetic resonance imaging MRF status and ypTNM stage were significant factors for OS after multivariate analysis. Distant metastasis is the dominant mode of treatment failure, and it is crucial to optimize systemic treatment for newly diagnosed patients.

Feeding modality evolution in traumatic brain injury patients with severe alteration of consciousness: A observational study.
The aim of this study was to compare feeding modalities and the level of consciousness in patients with a severe brain injury during reeducation and rehabilitation. The clinical data of vegetative state or minimal conscious state due to severe traumatic brain injury hospitalized in a coma arousal unit were collected from 2012 to 2019. Feeding modalities were evaluated clinically and with functional endoscopy evaluation of swallowing or video fluoroscopy and functional oral intake scale. ⋯ WHIM score was significantly higher in G2 than in G1 (P < .05). There was a positive correlation between functional oral intake scale and WHIM at discharge. Our results demonstrated that recovery of oral feeding in patients with a severe traumatic brain injury appeared in those who had the better improvement of consciousness level.

Heart failure (HF) is a clinical syndrome with various etiologies and presentations. The role of the inflammatory pathway in HF prognosis is not fully understood. We investigated the association between the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and HF complicated by right ventricular dysfunction (RVD) and whether the SII is related to compromised hemodynamic volume status. ⋯ A significant relationship was observed between indirect inflammation and RVD in patients with HFrEF. The hemodynamic volume status and functional capacity were impaired in patients with high SII scores. These results indicated that advanced HF with worse outcomes may be related to the inflammatory process.

Soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 associated with fulminant myocarditis in children: A retrospective observational study.
Fulminant myocarditis (FM) is associated with high mortality, and studies on soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 (sST2) and myocarditis are still scarce. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between sST2 and FM in children with myocarditis. This was a single-center retrospective clinical observational study. ⋯ After including multiple factors, creatinine (odd ratio [OR] 0.911; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.842-0.986; P = .021), NT-proBNP (OR 1.000; 95% CI, 1.000-1.000; P = .01), left ventricular ejection fraction (OR 1.306; 95% CI, 1.153-1.478; P < .001) and sST2 (OR 0.982; 95% CI, 0.965-0.999; P = .038) were still risk factors for FM. The area under curve values were 0.852 for the NT-proBNP, 0.817 for the creatinine, 0.914 for the left ventricular ejection fraction, and 0.865 for the sST2, which showed good sensitivity and specificity for FM. Elevated level of sST2 was associated with fulminant myocarditis. sST2 might be used as a potential biomarker for the diagnosis of fulminant myocarditis.
