Case Reports
Lung metastasis from thyroid cancer: A case report of unusual imaging presentation of lung metastases.
Thyroid cancer (TC) is the most common malignancy of the head and neck and endocrine system. Distant metastases from TC are rare and are diagnosed in only 1% to 4% of patients, and these patients have a poor prognosis, which is the leading cause of TC-related deaths. There are few reports on metastatic TC in China and abroad, and even fewer reports on lung metastases from TC. We report a special patient with lung metastases of TC. ⋯ This patient had the same CT value of lung metastases as the vascular CT value, which is relatively rare in our clinical practice and worthy of our study. The special CT imaging presentation of this TC patient with lung metastases further broadened our horizon. In clinical practice, when we encounter similar cases, we should combine more with other tests and examinations of patients to avoid misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis.

Silicosis is an incurable chronic disease characterized by lung fibrosis and inflammation. The combination of tetrandrine and Buyang Huanwu Decoction (BYHWD) has a curative effect on silicosis. However, the mechanism of action and the key active constituent in BYHWD are still unclear. ⋯ The in-silico investigation suggested that quercetin might be the active component in BYHWD responsible for therapeutic effectiveness against silicosis. This study identified the active compound and potential molecular mechanism underlying the therapeutic effects of BYHWD in combination with tetrandrine for treating silicosis. Notably, we found that quercetin may serve as the key compound in BYHWD for the treatment of silicosis.

Observational Study
Application of noninvasive test (acoustic attenuation imaging and ultrasonic shear wave elastography) to grade nonalcoholic fatty liver disease: An observational study.
The aim of this study was to validate the diagnostic efficacy of acoustic attenuation imaging (ATI) and ultrasonic shear wave elastography (SWE) in classifying nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). A total of 100 patients with NAFLD were recruited from our hospital between January 2021 and December 2022. Patient demographics and clinical data were collected, and 2-dimensional ultrasound was used to screen patients based on liver echo characteristics. ⋯ The area under the curve (AUC) for the ATI score in diagnosing different degrees of fatty liver was > 0.750, and the AUC for the SWE score was also > 0.750. The AUC for SWE score in diagnosing different degrees of fatty liver ranged from 1.01 to 4.57, while the combined AUC for ATI and SWE scores was > 0.850, with respective cutoff values of 3.62, 5.72, and 7.57 based on the maximum approximate entry index. The combination of ATI and SWE has a significant impact on the grading diagnosis of NAFLD, and its application can be extended to clinical practice.

Serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) plays an important role in bone metabolism. However, the association between serum ALP and bone mineral density (BMD) remains inconclusive. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the relationship between serum ALP levels and pelvic BMD in young adults. ⋯ Additionally, smooth curve fitting and threshold effect analysis showed a persistent negative correlation between serum ALP and pelvic BMD, with a saturation effect at 97 U/L. Our results revealed a negative correlation between serum ALP levels and pelvic BMD in young adults. Monitoring serum ALP levels could help in the early detection of risks for bone metabolic disorders such as osteoporosis.

Renal fibrosis is considered the pathway from almost all chronic kidney diseases (CKD) to end-stage renal diseases. The unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) model is a well-established experimental animal model to simulate renal fibrosis associated with obstructive nephropathy in an accelerated manner. In this study, in order to understand the development trends of research on UUO-induced renal fibrosis between 2005 and 2022 and predict prospects, we conducted a comprehensive bibliometric and visualized study using Web of Science (WoS). ⋯ Our results suggest that the molecular mechanism of UUO-induced renal fibrosis remains a research hot topic, especially on the inflammatory response and oxidative stress, and international cooperation is expected to expand and deepen in the future.
