Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are, the metabolic byproducts of intestinal microbiota that, are generated through anaerobic fermentation of undigested dietary fibers. SCFAs play a pivotal role in numerous physiological functions within the human body, including maintaining intestinal mucosal health, modulating immune functions, and regulating energy metabolism. In recent years, extensive research evidence has indicated that SCFAs are significantly involved in the onset and progression of Parkinson disease (PD). ⋯ Subsequently, an analysis of SCFA levels in patients with PD is presented. Furthermore, we expound upon the mechanisms through which SCFAs induce inflammatory responses, oxidative stress, abnormal aggregation of alpha-synuclein, and the intricacies of the gut-brain axis. Finally, we provide a critical analysis and explore the potential therapeutic role of SCFAs as promising targets for treating PD.

Pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma (PPGL) are rare neuroendocrine tumors with diverse clinical presentations. Alterations in energy expenditure state are commonly observed in patients with PPGL. However, the reported prevalence of hypermetabolism varies significantly and the underlying mechanisms and implications of this presentation have not been well elucidated. ⋯ The PPGL biomarker, chromogranin A (CgA), and its fragments also influence energy metabolism. Chronic hypermetabolic states may be detrimental to these patients, with surgical tumor removal remaining the primary therapeutic intervention. The high energy expenditure of PPGL has not received the attention it deserves, and an accurate assessment of energy metabolism is the cornerstone for an adequate understanding and treatment of the disease.

Low-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (LGSOC) is a rare subtype of ovarian cancer that accounts for approximately 6% to 10% of serous ovarian cancers. The clinical treatment of LGSOC is similar to that of high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma, however, its clinical and molecular characteristics are different from those of high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma. This article reviews the research on gene diagnosis, surgical treatment, chemotherapy, and biological therapy of LGSOC, providing reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment of LGSOC. ⋯ Targeted therapies, such as MEKi, show good application prospects and are expected to change the treatment pattern of LGSOC. Continuing to further study the genomics of LGSOC, identify its specific gene changes, and combine traditional treatment methods with precision targeted therapy based on second-generation sequencing may be the direction for LGSOC to overcome the treatment bottleneck. In future clinical work, comprehensive genetic testing should be carried out for LGSOC patients to accumulate data for future scientific research, in order to find more effective methods and drugs for the treatment of LGSOC.

Nonischemic cardiomyopathy (NICM) is a major cause of advanced heart failure, and the morbidity and mortality associated with NICM are serious medical problems. However, the etiology of NICM is complex and the related mechanisms involved in its pathogenesis remain unclear. The microarray datasets GSE1869 and GSE9128 retrieved from the Gene Expression Omnibus database were used to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between NICM and normal samples. ⋯ The PPI network analysis revealed that DUSP6, EGR1, ZEB2, and XPO1 are the 4 hub genes of interest in the 2 datasets. Bioinformatics analysis of hub genes and key signaling pathways is an effective way to elucidate the mechanisms involved in the development of NICM. The results will facilitate further studies on the pathogenesis and therapeutic targets of NICM.

Effect of acupuncture combined with Ningshen mixture on climacteric insomnia: A randomized controlled trial.
In recent years, the incidence of menopause insomnia has gradually increased, seriously affecting women's physical and mental health. ⋯ Acupuncture united with Ningshen mixture has a significant therapeutic effect and high safety in climacteric insomnia patients. It can effectively improve the neurotransmitter levels, clinical symptoms and sleep quality, and reduce the recurrence rate of climacteric insomnia patients, which has high clinical application value and is worthy of clinical promotion.
