Correlation between serum inflammatory factors and cognitive function in patients with high-altitude polycythemia: A case-control study.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the serum inflammatory factors in patients with high-altitude polycythemia (HAPC) and their correlation with cognitive function. The subjects were recruited and placed into a HAPC group and control group. Serum samples were collected, and inflammatory factors (interleukin-1beta [IL-1β], monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 [MCP-1], and tumor necrosis factor-alpha [TNF-α]) were measured using ELISA kits. ⋯ The Pearson correlation analysis showed that inflammatory factors were positively correlated with hemoglobin, and negatively correlated with MMSE. Serum inflammatory cytokines IL-1, MCP-1, and TNF-α were increased in HAPC, and HAPC exhibited cognitive dysfunction. Considering chronic hypoxia environment influences the change of the red blood cell metabolic and inflammatory factor, red blood cells and inflammatory factor in plateau is likely to be affected by patients with vascular lesions, increase cognitive impairment.

The influence of COMT and ABCB1 gene polymorphisms on sufentanil analgesic effect for postoperative pain in children with fracture.
The aim of this observational study was to investigate the effects of catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) and ATP-binding cassette transporter B1 (ABCB1) gene polymorphisms on the postoperative analgesic effect of sufentanil in Chinese Han pediatric patients with fractures. A total of 185 pediatric patients who underwent fracture surgery were included. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism was used to detect the polymorphisms of COMT and ABCB1 genes. ⋯ Among patients with AA genotype in COMT, the pain scores and total consumption of sufentanil at awakening, 2, 6, 12, and 24 hours after surgery were higher compared to AG and GG genotypes (P < .05), while there were no statistically significant differences between AG and GG genotypes (P > .05). There were no statistically significant differences in adverse reactions between different genotypes of ABCB1 and COMT (P > .05). The polymorphisms of COMT gene rs4680 and ABCB1 gene rs1045642 are associated with the analgesic effect and consumption of sufentanil in pediatric patients after fracture surgery.

Obesity is a complex chronic metabolic disorder characterized by abnormalities in lipid metabolism. Obesity is not only associated with various chronic diseases but also has negative effects on physiological functions such as the cardiovascular, endocrine and immune systems. As a global health problem, the incidence and prevalence of obesity have increased significantly in recent years. ⋯ Current methods for measuring obesity in adult include density calculation, anthropometric measurements, bioelectrical impedance analysis, dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, computerized imaging, etc. Measurement indicators mainly include weight, hip circumference, waist circumference, neck circumference, skinfold thickness, etc. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the literature to date, summarizes and analyzes various assessment methods and measurement indicators for adult obesity, and provides insights and guidance for the innovation of obesity assessment indicators.

General anesthesia versus local anesthesia for deep brain stimulation targeting of STN in Parkinson's disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) is a viable therapeutic for advanced Parkinson's disease. However, the efficacy and safety of STN-DBS under local anesthesia (LA) versus general anesthesia (GA) remain controversial. This meta-analysis aims to compare them using an expanded sample size. ⋯ Our meta-analysis indicates that STN-DBS performed under GA or LA have similar clinical outcomes and complications. Therefore, GA may be a suitable option for patients with severe symptoms who cannot tolerate the procedure under LA. Additionally, the GA group with intraoperative imaging showed better clinical outcomes than the LA group with MER. A more compelling conclusion would require larger prospective cohort studies with a substantial patient population and extended long follow-up to validate.

Effects of high-frequency hyperthermia on the elastic modulus of the lumbar muscle in female athletes with low back pain: A randomized crossover trial.
To investigate the effects of capacitive and resistive monopolar radiofrequency (CRMF) on the shear elastic modulus of the multifidus and erector spinae muscles in female athletes with low back pain (LBP) and a history of LBP. ⋯ CRMF can be used to reduce the shear elastic modulus of the multifidus muscle in the short term. Further studies are warranted to determine how to provide longer effects.
