The lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) is an indicator of inflammation in blood routine tests; however, little is known about its screening value in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). The aim of this study was to explore the screening value of LMR and methylated Septin9 (mSEPT9) in CRC patients. The clinical data of 420 patients with CRC, 61 with adenomatous polyps, and 175 healthy individuals from 2018 to 2022 were retrospectively analyzed, and corresponding predictive nomograms were established. ⋯ The LMR with mSEPT9 combination showed the best combined diagnostic value for CRC, with AUC of 0.885. When the cutoff values of mSEPT9 and LMR were taken as 43.835 and 3.365, the sensitivity and specificity of this combination reached 82.3% and 84.6%, respectively. Our findings suggest that LMR and mSEPT9 differ in non-tumor group and CRC groups with different subtypes and stages, LMR with mSEPT9 combination can further improve sensitivity, and the novel predictive nomogram for CRC based on LMR and mSEPT9 can be further promoted.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is a highly aggressive primary malignant brain tumor with a dismal prognosis despite current treatment strategies. Inflammation plays an essential role in GBM pathophysiology, contributing to tumor growth, invasion, immunosuppression, and angiogenesis. As a result, pharmacological intervention with anti-inflammatory drugs has been used as a potential approach for the management of GBM. ⋯ A narrative review was carried out, scanning publications from 2000 to 2023 on PubMed and Google Scholar. The search was not guided by a set research question or a specific search method but rather focused on the area of interest. Conventional treatments such as surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy have shown some benefits, but their effectiveness is limited by various factors such as tumor heterogeneity and resistance.

The aim of this study is to examine the impact of the Orlistat on glucose levels and glucose tolerance in individuals with prediabetes, as well as assess its efficacy and safety in preventing the progression to diabetes. ⋯ In prediabetic people, the orlistat can control weight, reduce the fasting blood glucose and the 2 hour postprandial blood glucose, and then delay the progression of diabetes. However, due to the quantitative restrictions, additional high-quality study needs to be conducted to improve the reliability of the results.

Acne is a prevalent inflammatory condition of the pilosebaceous unit, which seriously affects the appearance and mental health of patients. Bibliometrics is the statistical analysis of academic literature in a certain field. We aimed to characterize the 100 most cited articles on acne from a bibliometric perspective, as well as explore the frontier hotspots and trends of acne. ⋯ This analysis summarizes the shifting trends of acne research over the last decades. Research on acne is currently flourishing. The related pathogenesis and therapeutic strategies have been the focus of current research and developmental trends in future research.

Structural characteristics, biomechanics and clinical significance of calcar femorale: A review.
The calcar femorale, first identified by Merkel in 1874, plays a pivotal role in the weight-bearing capacity of the proximal femur, and its structural integrity is crucial for the efficient distribution of mechanical loads. Originating at the vertical ridge where the pubofemoral ligament anchors, this bony prominence extends laterally behind the neutral axis from the medial to lateral aspects. Its presence is not merely an anatomical curiosity but significantly influences the biomechanics of the hip joint by providing additional strength and support against compressive forces encountered during activities such as walking or jumping. ⋯ This article delves into the nuanced anatomy and biomechanical properties of the calcar femorale, offering a detailed literature-based examination that demonstrates its relevance in clinical practice. The review highlights how the robustness of the calcar femorale contributes to the prevention of femoral neck fractures as well as the stabilization of hip prostheses. Furthermore, the indispensable role of the calcar femorale in surgical outcomes is discussed, especially in the context of fracture repair and joint replacement, thus illustrating its enduring significance in contemporary medical applications.
