To investigate the mechanism by which high-dose vitamin C (HVC) promotes ferroptosis in tumor cells via network pharmacology, vitamin C-related and ferroptosis-related targets were obtained from the PharmMapper and GeneCards databases, respectively, and their common targets were compared using the Venn diagram. Common targets were imported into the STRING database for protein-protein interaction analysis, and core targets were defined. Core targets were enriched for Gene Ontology terms and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways using the R language packages. ⋯ In conclusion, HVC may promote ferroptosis in tumor cells by regulating metabolic pathways, and there is a synergistic effect between HVC and type I ferroptosis inducers. Glycolysis-dependent tumors may be beneficial for HVC therapy. Our study provides a reference for further clinical studies on HVC antitumor therapy.

Exploring prenatal depression and postpartum depression: Findings from a prospective cohort study at University Hospital Obstetrics in Damascus.
The perinatal period is crucial for both mother and newborn, and mental health, including prenatal and postpartum depression (PPD), is a significant aspect. Screening for these disorders allows for early treatment and helps prevent risks to both mother and child. This prospective cohort study was carried out at University Hospital Obstetrics in Damascus City. ⋯ PPD was predicted by a history of PPD, and work status. Findings underscore potential value of early screening for depressive symptoms as a predictive measure. It is recommended that women with a history of depression receive heightened attention and care, irrespective of the timing of their depressive episodes.

Gout is a chronic disease characterized by deposition of monosodium urate crystals. Tophi develop in some individuals with untreated or uncontrolled gout, which leads to ulcerations, cosmetic problems, mechanical obstruction of joint movement, joint damage and musculoskeletal disability. Currently, the treatment of gouty tophi is controversial and challenging. Both surgical and internal medical treatments have limitations and require further exploration in clinical practice. ⋯ We explored effective interventions for tophi in gout by surgical or other interventions in combination with pharmacotherapy.

Assessing the clinical utility of abdominal computed tomography in sepsis patients with unknown origin: A retrospective cohort study.
Early identification of the sources of infection in emergency department (ED) patients of sepsis remains challenging. Computed tomography (CT) has the potential to identify sources of infection. This retrospective study aimed to investigate the role of CT in identifying sources of infection in patients with sepsis without obvious infection foci in the ED. ⋯ In patients with sepsis with an undetermined infection focus, those presenting with leukocytosis, anemia, and elevated absolute neutrophil counts tended to have positive findings on abdominal CT scans. These patients had high rates of bacteremia and longer lengths of stay. Abdominal CT remains a valuable diagnostic tool for identifying infection sources in carefully selected patients with sepsis of undetermined infection origins.

Therapy resistance in gastric cancer poses ongoing challenges, necessitating the identification of ferroptosis-related genes linked to overall survival for potential therapeutic insights. The purpose of the study was to identify ferroptosis-related genes contributing to therapy resistance in gastric cancer and explore their associations with overall survival. Differentially expressed ferroptosis-related genes were identified in therapy-resistant versus therapy-responsive gastric cancer patients. ⋯ DUSP1/NOX4/SREBF1/TNF/KRAS expression was associated with immune cell infiltration. The hub gene-based risk model (DUSP1/TNF/NOX4/LONP1) shows promise as an overall survival predictor in gastric cancer. Ferroptosis-related hub genes represent potential therapeutic targets for overcoming therapy resistance in gastric cancer treatment.
