Several observational studies have reported a correlation between the gut microbiota (GM) and the risk of acute pancreatitis (AP). However, the causal relationship between them remains uncertain. We conducted a 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study using pooled data from genome-wide association studies of 211 taxa (131 genera, 35 families, 20 orders, 16 classes, and 9 phyla) and AP patients. ⋯ A comprehensive sensitivity analysis proved our results to be reliable. Reverse MR analysis did not indicate any causal relationship between AP and the GM. This study revealed a complex causal relationship between 5 GM taxa and AP, providing new insights into the diagnostic and therapeutic potential of the GM in AP patients.

The forensic characteristics and genetic relationships of Hainan Han population are still not fully understood. The aim of this study was to investigate the forensic features and genetic variations of 23 short tandem repeat (STR) included in the HuaxiaTM Platinum system in Hainan Han and analyze the population genetic relationships between Hainan Han and other adjacent Chinese populations. The genetic polymorphisms of 23 STR loci included in the HuaxiaTM Platinum kit were evaluated from 2971 Hainan Han individuals. ⋯ Our study found the 23 STR loci were highly polymorphic and suitable for forensic personal identification and paternity testing in Hainan Han population. Genetic similarity widely existed among Han populations from different regions, and significant genetic divergence existed between Han populations and some ethnic minorities. The populations genetic diversity and similarity were closely associated with ethnic origin and geographical distribution.

Bundled care combined with animated educational videos can promote the recovery of severe pneumonia in children: A case-control study.
In this study, we analyzed the efficacy of animated educational videos and group nursing in the treatment of severe pneumonia in children. A total of 140 patients with severe pneumonia in our hospital from October 2022 to October 2023 were selected as the research subjects, and they were divided into a control group and an observation group. The control group received routine care, while the observation group received animated educational videos and cluster nursing interventions. ⋯ Univariate analysis showed that families with or without anxiety disorder had statistically significant differences in economic conditions, extrapulmonary complications, nursing methods and other aspects. Logistic multivariate regression analysis showed that nursing methods, extrapulmonary complications, and poor economic conditions (income < 5000) were risk factors for anxiety among family members of severe pneumonia patients, while good economic conditions (income > 5000) were protective factors. So, animated educational videos and bundled care can effectively improve the nursing effectiveness of children with severe pneumonia and promote their recovery.

Prostate tuberculosis (TB) is a rare and often underdiagnosed condition due to its nonspecific symptoms and imaging features, which can mimic malignancies on 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (PET) scans. This resemblance poses a challenge in differentiating TB from prostate cancer, especially in patients with preexisting tumors such as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. The purpose of this study is to highlight the importance of considering TB in the differential diagnosis of patients with atypical imaging findings, even in the presence of known malignancies. ⋯ This case report underscores the critical role of considering TB as a potential diagnosis in patients with hematological tumors and atypical imaging results. It serves as a reminder for clinicians to exercise caution when interpreting PET/computed tomography scans and to incorporate TB into their differential diagnoses, thereby avoiding misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) as a autoimmune disease involves inflammatory responses in the development of the disease, often causing changes in the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR). In the past few decades, research on the relationship between NLR and AS has generally shown an upward trend. This study adopts the bibliometrics method to analyze the development trend, frontier, and hotspots of global research in this field in the past 2 decades. ⋯ Frontiers in Immunology is the institution with the highest output. The H-index of the Annals of the Rheumatic holds the top position. This study has uncovered the main emphasis on NLR in AS research and has provided clarification regarding the value of NLR as a biomarker for immune inflammatory response in the diagnosis and prognosis of AS.
