Sepsis-induced myopathy (SIM) a complication of sepsis that results in prolonged mechanical ventilation, long-term functional disability, and increased patient mortality. This study was performed to identify potential key oxidative stress-related genes (OS-genes) as biomarkers for the diagnosis of SIM using bioinformatics. ⋯ The results of this study suggest that OS-genes might play an important role in SIM. CD36, GPX3, NQO1, GSR, and TP53 have potential as specific biomarkers for the diagnosis of SIM.

The role of platelet large cell ratio in determining mortality in COVID-19 patients.
Inflammatory mechanisms have been implicated and have been subject to research in the clinical course of COVID-19 patients. In this study, platelet large cell ratio (P-LCR) has been examined as a novel prognostic and inflammatory parameter. A total of 1992 COVID-19-positive patients admitted to COVID-19 unit of Infectious Diseases were included. ⋯ As P-LCR was correlated with the severity of inflammation in all COVID-19 patients, it was significantly higher in those patients who died. Elevated P-LCR was considered to be associated with the risk of severe disease and death. This inexpensive, readily available test may be incorporated into our clinical practice as a novel marker of poor prognosis in addition to other valuable laboratory parameters.

Echocardiographic manifestations of mitochondrial disease with GTPBP3 gene mutations: A case report.
Mitochondrial diseases are a group of disorders in which mutations in mitochondrial DNA or nuclear DNA lead to dysfunctional oxidative phosphorylation of cells, with mutations in mitochondrial DNA being the most common cause of mitochondrial disease, and mutations in nuclear genes being rarely reported. The echocardiographic findings of mitochondrial diseases with nuclear gene mutations in children's hearts are even rarer. Even more valuable is that we followed up the patient for 4 years and dynamically observed the cardiac echocardiographic manifestations of mitochondrial disease. Provide ideas for the clinical diagnosis and prognosis of mitochondrial diseases. ⋯ For echocardiographic indications of LV wall thickening and LV enlargement, one needs to be alert to the possibility of hereditary cardiomyopathy, especially in children.

Analysis of the detection rate and clinical characteristics of early gastric cancer by painless gastroscopy and ordinary gastroscopy.
To investigate the difference of early gastric cancer (EGC) detection rate and endoscopic characteristics between painless and ordinary electronic gastroscopy, and summarize the clinical data of gastric cancer (GC) patients. ⋯ Painless gastroscopy can effectively improve the screening and diagnostic efficiency of EGC, especially for EGC lesions that are not easy to expose the site, small in size, superficial, without obvious mucosal color change or without mucosal breakage. Therefore, the value of painless gastroscopy in EGC screening is worth further promotion and research.

Incidentally detected follicular thyroid carcinoma mimicking parathyroid adenoma on Tc-99m MIBI scan: A case report.
Primary hyperparathyroidism, though relatively prevalent among endocrine disorders, affecting 1% of the general population, often presents diagnostic challenges. Given its potential to precipitate severe complications including nephrolithiasis and fractures, timely diagnosis, and effective management are crucial. ⋯ When interpreting the Tc-99m MIBI scan, it is essential to keep in mind that various tumors rich in mitochondria, such as thyroid carcinoma, could show a high uptake of Tc-99m MIBI.
