Multicenter Study Observational Study
Characteristics of Korean medical care utilization in patients with traffic injury: Analysis of 3 hospital electronic health record databases.
This retrospective study aimed to identify the characteristics of Korean medical care utilization in patients with traffic injury (TI) and to explore the clinical effectiveness of Korean medical interventions for TI through a multicenter chart review. This multicenter, retrospective registry study gathered electronic health records from 3 hospitals between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2021. Data included treatment dates, demographic information, the Korean Standard Classification of Diseases codes, collision data, Korean medicine treatment modalities, and treatment outcomes. ⋯ Comparative intragroup analysis revealed significant pain reduction in patients treated with the combination of Chuna manual therapy, herbal medicine, and pharmacopuncture and those treated with pharmacopuncture and herbal medicine only. This study highlights the characteristics of patients with TI visiting medical institutions providing Korean medicine and describes the effectiveness of Korean medicine interventions. Further comprehensive analysis with more data is necessary for future research.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Efficacy evaluation and exploratory analysis of influencing factors of Banxia Houpu Decoction in the treatment of refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Approximately 10% to 40% of patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) exhibit poor response to proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), indicating refractory GERD (RGERD). Banxia Houpu Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine formula used for treating GERD, particularly for atypical symptoms. This study aimed to investigate the improvement of different symptoms in RGERD patients treated with Banxia Houpu Decoction and identify relevant factors influencing its efficacy. ⋯ Age (P = .025) and gastroesophageal flap valve (GEFV) grade (P = .014) were identified as factors influencing the efficacy of Banxia Houpu Decoction. Banxia Houpu Decoction exhibits superior efficacy compared to double-dose PPI combined with acid suppressants in relieving symptoms such as throat burning sensation, swallowing difficulty, and frequent hiccups. It shows significant efficacy in patients under 60 years of age and with GEFV grades I-II.

Several studies have reported a potential association between the gut microbiota (GM) and scoliosis. However, the causal relationship between GM and scoliosis and the role of inflammatory factors (IFs) as mediators remain unclear. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between GM, IFs, and scoliosis. ⋯ IFs do not appear to act as mediators in the pathway from GM to scoliosis. In conclusion, this study demonstrated a causal association between the GM, IFs, and scoliosis, indicating that IFs are not mediators in the pathway from the GM to scoliosis. These findings offer new insights into prevention and treatment strategies for scoliosis.

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy with pulmonary nocardiosis: A case report.
Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is an immune-mediated motor sensory peripheral neuropathy that is rare in clinical practice. This treatment method aims to suppress potential immunopathology. Nocardiosis is a rare, destructive, opportunistic disease. We report a case of failed treatment of CIDP combined with pulmonary nocardiosis, and for the first time, we link these 2 diseases together. ⋯ For patients with CIDP receiving immunosuppressive therapy, attention should be paid to the occurrence and severity of Nocardia infection. Therefore, early detection and treatment are necessary. We need to pay attention to the compliance of patients with prophylactic use of antibiotics, strengthen the follow-up, and urge them to return to their appointments on time.

Case Reports
A portent of catastrophic carbon dioxide embolism in laparoscopic hepatectomy: A case report.
Laparoscopic hepatectomy (LH) poses a high risk of carbon dioxide embolism due to extensive hepatic transection, long surgery duration, and dissection of the large hepatic veins or vena cava. ⋯ Instant arterial blood gas analysis is imperative, and a significant difference between PaCO2 and ETCO2 is indicative of carbon dioxide embolism.
