Associations between waist-to-height ratio and abdominal aortic calcification: A cross-sectional study.
Waist-to-height ratio (WtHR) is a validated biomarker of central obesity that appears to be preferable to other body composition measurements in the evaluation of cardiovascular disease. The goal of this research was to explore the connection between WtHR and abdominal aortic calcification (AAC) among adults. On the basis of data from the 2013 to 2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, multivariate logistic regression, sensitivity analysis, as well as smoothed curve fitting were used to evaluate the connection between WtHR and AAC. ⋯ This negative association was more pronounced in the diabetes subgroup. We discovered a reversed U-shaped association between WtHR as well as AAC score utilizing a 2-stage linear regression model, with an intersection point of 0.56. WtHR was negatively associated with AAC among US adults.

Previous observational studies have suggested a possible association between periodontal disease and gastric cancer (GC); however, a causal relationship has not yet been established. This study aimed to explore the causal relationship between the 2 through a 2-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) study. ⋯ Within the limitations of this MR study, we found no mutual causal relationship between periodontal disease and GC. This finding can prevent overtreatment by clinical physicians and alleviate the psychological burden on patients.

A bibliometric analysis from 2013 to 2024 reveals research hotspots and trends in the connection between atrial fibrillation and cryoballoon: An observational study.
Using bibliometric analysis, this study attempted to provide an overview of the current state of research and key findings regarding the relationship between atrial fibrillation (AF) and cryoballoons in general. We gathered the literature from the Web of Science (WOS) database covering the last 11 years (2013-2024) pertaining to AF and cryoballoons, and we used Citespace to evaluate the mapping of knowledge. The findings demonstrated that there were 1986 articles concerning AF and cryoballoons, with a faster growth after 2018. ⋯ Kuck KH (2016) is the most frequently mentioned reference as well (488). We know that Vrije Universiteit Brusse in the Belgium has emerged as 1 of this discipline's leading research forces based on a 10-year bibliometric investigation. Prominent universities and developed nations form the finest alliances for research on cryoballoons and AF.

NGS panel enhance precise diagnosis of myeloid neoplasms under WHO-HAEM5 and International Consensus Classification: An observational study.
This study aimed to assess hematological diseases next-generation sequencing (NGS) panel enhances the diagnosis and classification of myeloid neoplasms (MN) using the 5th edition of the WHO Classification of Hematolymphoid Tumors (WHO-HAEM5) and the International Consensus Classification (ICC) of Myeloid Tumors. A cohort of 112 patients diagnosed with MN according to the revised fourth edition of the WHO classification (WHO-HAEM4R) underwent testing with a 141-gene NGS panel for hematological diseases. Ancillary studies were also conducted, including bone marrow cytomorphology and routine cytogenetics. ⋯ In MPN, NGS confirmed diagnoses in 16 cases by detecting JAK2, MPL, or CALR mutations, whereas 13 "triple-negative" MPN cases revealed at least 1 mutation. NGS panel testing for hematological diseases improves the diagnosis and classification of MN. When diagnosed with ICC, NGS produces more classification subtype information than WHO-HAEM5.

Waldenström macroglobulinemia presenting as bilateral bloody pleural effusion: A case report.
Pleural effusion, especially bilateral bloody pleural effusion, is a rare complication of Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM). Pleural effusion in patients with WM has many causes, such as infection, tumor invasion of the pleura, and rupture of the thoracic duct or its branches. Patients with WM presenting to the respiratory department with chest tightness and shortness of breath need more differential diagnosis by respiratory physicians, which is helpful for effective treatment. Herein, we present a case of MV diagnosis in a patient with bilateral bloody pleural effusion. ⋯ Despite its favorable prognosis, the cause of pleural effusion in a patient with WM can be challenging to diagnose. The cause of pleural effusion should be considered a differential diagnosis when diagnosing patients diagnosed with WM.
