Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis (PCI) is a rare condition characterized by multiple gas-filled cysts in the gastrointestinal tract and is associated with numerous conditions. Benign PCI can occur secondary to certain medications, such as anticancer-targeted therapies. Here, we report a rare case of PCI that developed following sunitinib therapy for metastatic RCC and was successfully managed with conservative treatment without surgery. ⋯ This case emphasizes that the decision between conservative versus surgical treatment for PCI should be based not solely on radiological findings but rather on a comprehensive assessment, including the underlying condition, vital signs, physical examinations, and blood tests.

Previous studies have shown that patients with polycythemia vera (PV) have poor quality of life (QoL). Similarly, it has been shown that survival is influenced by QoL. We aimed to evaluate QoL in 88 Turkish patients with PV. ⋯ Higher leucocyte counts were associated with decreased physical functioning and greater fatigue. In conclusion, we demonstrated deterioration of physical and emotional QoL in patients diagnosed with PV. Patients with PV require individualized, patient-specific and integrated approaches in order to minimize symptoms, improve QoL, and increase survival.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an immune-mediated inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract that includes Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis (UC). Although IBD is associated with elevated levels of innate and adaptive immunity, the relationship between circulating immune cells and IBD remains largely unknown. Therefore, we conducted a bidirectional 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study to determine their causal relationship. ⋯ MR analysis of the above 4 immune cell phenotypes revealed no horizontal pleiotropy. In the reverse MR analysis, Crohn disease was not causally associated with any of these immune cell phenotypes. The findings provide insight into the relationship between immune cells and IBD pathogenesis, and may serve as a basis for developing novel immunotherapies.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) inevitably progresses to end-stage renal disease if intervention does not occur timely. However, there are limitations in predicting the progression of CKD by solely relying on changes in renal function. A biomarker with high sensitivity and specificity that can predict CKD progression early is required. ⋯ The receiver operating characteristic curve analysis of CCR7, CCL19, and CCL21 found that CCR7 and CCL19 present good disease prediction ability. CCR7 may be a stable biomarker for predicting CKD progression, and the CCR7-CCL19/CCL21 axis may be a therapeutic target for end-stage renal disease. However, further experiments are needed to explore the relationship between these genes and CKD.

Liver cancer with portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) is a frequent finding and is related to poor prognosis. Surgical resection provides a more promising prognosis in selected patients. The purpose of this study was to explore the application of 3D (3-dimensional) visualization and image fusion technology in liver cancer with PVTT surgery. 12 patients were treated with surgery between March 2019 and August 2022. ⋯ The 3D visualization model was a perfect fusion with the intraoperative live scene and precise guidance for hepatectomy. No patient was suffering from postoperative liver failure and without procedure‑associated death. 6 patients died of tumor recurrence, and 2 patients died of other reasons. The 12-month cumulative survival rate was 25.9%. 3D visualization and image fusion technology could be used for precise assessment of FLR, classification of PVTT, surgery navigation, and which was helpful in improving the safety of hepatectomy.
