Timely treatment and recovery of cardiac arrest in out-of-hospital settings present significant challenges. This report describes a novel method of integrating advanced monitoring techniques such as radial artery cannulation in the treatment of an 85-year-old male patient who suffered an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). ⋯ This case underscores the significant role of radial artery cannulation for invasive blood pressure monitoring in improving clinical outcomes for patients experiencing OHCA. Integrating radial artery cannulation with other advanced monitoring techniques aids in the early detection of the return of spontaneous circulation and optimizes subsequent intensive care treatment.

Effect of epinephrine-mixed fascia iliaca compartment block on bleeding in total hip arthroplasty: A single-center retrospective study.
Fascia iliaca compartment block (FICB) reduces opioid consumption and pain scores after total hip arthroplasty (THA), and has recently been widely applied. We investigated whether FICB could also reduce postoperative bleeding. One hundred and fifteen consecutive patients who underwent elective THA under general anesthesia over 5 months were retrospectively analyzed. ⋯ EBL at 1 to 24 hours (226 vs 398 mL, P = .008) was significantly lower in the FICB group than in the control group. Additionally, the number of packed red cell (PRC) units transfused per patient over 48 hours was 0.38 units in the FICB group, which was significantly lower than the 0.70 units used in the control group (P = .040). Epinephrine-mixed FICB in THA has the potential to reduce postoperative bleeding in the first 24 hours after surgery as well as reduce PRC transfusion requirements.

Facial aging involves a continuous sequence of complex, interrelated events that impact numerous facial tissues. The aim of the study was to elucidate the casual relationship between circulating micronutrients and risk of facial aging. A two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis was performed using genetic data from genome-wide association studies. ⋯ We conducted an in-depth examination of the correlation between several micronutrient blood levels and the risk of facial aging, and identified 3 key micronutrients (selenium, carotene, and iron) that may have a significant impact on skin health. Inverse-variance weighted results indicate that selenium levels were positively correlated with the risk of facial aging (odds ratio [OR] 1.005, P = .027), while a negative causal effect of carotene (OR 0.979, P = .024) and iron (OR 0.976, P = .009) on age-related facial alterations was observed. This study offers a new and insightful perspective on the current understanding of antiaging strategies, particularly the importance of appropriate consumption of essential micronutrients to maintain healthy skin condition.

Listeria monocytogenes (LM) is an important foodborne bacterium, and LM meningoencephalitis is rare in clinical practice, with poor prognosis in severe patients. It is prone to misdiagnosis in clinical practice. We first reported a case of severe LM meningoencephalitis with muscle lesions and evaluated the comprehensive condition. ⋯ LM meningoencephalitis complicated with lower limb muscle lesions is clinically rare. This report focuses on relevant treatment plans, which provide value for the examination and comprehensive management of patients with LM infection in the future.

This study was conducted to evaluate whether smart cell phones detach people from social life, make them lonely, cause depressive symptoms and whether there is a relationship between them. This is a cross-sectional study using face-to-face survey method. The sample was determined as 376 participants, with 95% confidence interval, 50% probability depending on the probability of having a smartphone or not. ⋯ The duration of daily smartphone use, the duration of first-time smartphone use, and having multiple smartphone users in family increased nomophobia. Also, having active social media accounts and self-reported smartphone addiction found correlated to nomophobia. Smartphone addiction increases depression, anxiety, and stress scores of the participants.
